6 years ban don't sound all that long when you realise he'll be inside for 5 of those.

5 years is a fucking long time,,,,,,,,,, the ban is just cause hes gonna be inside,,,,,,,,,,, at the end of the day we dont know the facts but i know that 80 in a 30 can be done easy,,,,,,,,,,,, just look at that copper who done it off duty,,,,,,,,,,,,,, food for thought imo

but the fact hes killed 2 people must be the hardest part for him,,,,,,, even when he gets out hes lives gonna be messed up

5 years for what he done sounds harsh imo,,,,,,,,, considering he never ment to kill them and it WAS a accident and not actually on purpose,,,,,, people get less for raping small boys

gotta wonder about the sentances they issue out these days

I don't believe we have enough of the facts to act as judge, jury and executioner. Speeding through a 30mph limit is silly but most of us will imagine a residential area. This is a photo the road my mum lives on and it's a 30mph limit also.

For once I agree with you Phil, Did Rod not claim once to have 180mph+ out of his car on a road, now go on all you ass lickers go n tell Tarry what u realy think of that and how dangerous that is, thought not.

Yous have all driven like a twat at some point but havent been unlucky like that kid so STFU

He will probably never ever get over that , I have a mate who is in jail for killing a little boy on the road, stepped out as he was flying down the road, for a month after it he didnt come out of his bedroom and his parents say when he gets out of jail he will never ever recover from it.

that road looks residential on the right though,,,,,,,,, could be wrong

i agree about the facts,,,,,,, doing 80 in a 30 when driving a quick car is very easy,,,,,,,,, HOLDING IT at that speed is hard

i confess ive done over 90 outside my mums house which is a road that leads to kings cross,,,,,,,, dont mean it aint dangerous though but saying that I could have been that person,,,,,,,,,, think that was rich's point though

we just gotta learn to respect our cars and control our urges more

as for doing over 150 on a motorway,,,,,, that IS dangerous UNLESS its TOTALLY empty but then at over 150 the distance your covering it wont be empty for long,,,,,,,,,, the roads need to be laid nice too,,,, where rod lives the roads are pretty much new so its easy to do there,,,,,, still dont hide the point IT COULD BE dangerous if the worst happened,,,,,,,, but we all do that not just rod

I'd see a speed of anything up to 65MPH on that road in the omega, if i was on the non house side

Its a deceptive car to drive, feels like i'm going slower. But yeah 65mph would be my limit on a road like that.

I'm not going to deny it, cos i know al ot of people on here (even the ones who say its bad) do the same.

So 79 in a scooby aint really supersonic is it.

thats a TRUE fact i think most ignore,,,,,,,,, actually killing someone is a hard thing to get over for most people and that INCLUDES the trained killers in the army ect

so to give him 5 years is somewhat harsh,,,,,,, if you kill someone by messing about and its acidental you wont get 5 years,,,,,,,,, seems harsh to me

remember the poor chap is 22 years old,,,,,, the stuff i was doing at 22 i would NEVER do now and i find it hard to belive that i would do such stuff

he will be out when hes MY age NOW,,,,,,,,, 5 years seems too long,,,,, its ment to rehabilitate him for hes return,,,,,,, 1 year would have done exactly that imo maybe 2 if hes a bad lad with history but then i dont know the facts,,,,,,, just know that it could have been me just as easy as it was him

As much as a car is a weapon, its nowhere near anything like havinga gun.

Guns are designed to kill, and kill only.

Cars CAN kill, but they arn't desgined to kill, so its down to manslaughter if you inadvertantly kill someone with it.

remembe tyhat rod accelerates upto them speeds, he dont actualy hold his car there,,,,,,, HUGE DIFFERENCE and you know it

doing 150 on the M1 is more dangerous than doing 150 on the M4 considering the roads are messed up and full of cambers on the M1 and the M4 is smooth and well maintained

but i stated that anything after 150 is silly,,,,,,,,, but accerating upto 180 in a car that gets to that speed faster than you could get to 120 is the part to consider IF he slows back down again when hes had hes "buzz"

now i have NEVER been over 150ish driving and ive only even held a car at 135/140 on a TOTALLY EMPTY AND CLEAR ROAD THATS IN GOOD CONDITION

but i admit i would hold my car at over a ton almost all the times im able too on motorways,,,,,,,,,, that includes company vans

i rarley do more than 120 though,,,,, as in ive done it less than 20 times in my life and i can remember all of em,,,,,,, BUT im not a good enough driver for them speeds i admit it

ive been out with a mate who REGUALY does 80 in 30/40/50 zones and then on a motorway he wont go over 75 cause hes worried about getting nicked for speeding as he dont know where the cameras or old bill are

we are all silly remember

i agree,,,,,,,, to take someones life is alot different to actually killing them

did anyone hear about miss dynamites brother being involved in a "car accident" 2 weeks ago

well my missus AND my baby whitnessed that,,,,,,,,, she seen EXACTLY WHAT HAPPEND

this it what happened

guy on a bicycle cuts up my missus to jump a red light and in doing it a bloke in a chrysler voyager has to slam on the brakes,,,, he bibs his horn and the guy on the bike sticks his finger up and tells him " go fuck yourself"

guy in the voyager DRIVES INTO HIM !!!!!, hes STILL TRYING TO DRIVE OVER HIM when the cars fron wheel is INFRONT of this guys face !!!!!!, he cant get the chrysler to go more forward as the bike and the bloke have wedged it and so the car is just reving,,,,,,,,,,, at all this time my missus can see this guy SCREAMING IN PAIN and blood on the floor aswell as see the front wheel near hes head ( as in inches) and see the bloke trying to go forward to get away

ANYWAY the old bill happen to be a few cars away and turn up and the guy claims its a accident ( and the guy under the car has now gone quiet and aint moving so my missus thinks hes DEAD )

anyway a few whitnesses say what happens ect and they take the bloke in cuffs and arrest him

TURNS OUT ITS MISS DYNAMITES BROTHER !!!!, THERE DOING HIM FOR GBH AS HE NEVER REVERSE THEY CANT DO HIM FOR ATTEMPTED MURDER

now im sorry but HE deserves to get 3 years inside for what he tryed to do,,,, the bloke never died but he passed out in pain !!!!!!

2 broken legs aswell as his hip is crushed

and they give a bloke driving a car fast in a dangerous BUT NON AGRESSIVE manor 5 years

imo the prick in the voyager should be BANNED FOR LIFE just as a start aswell as serving a few years inside

not to mention the stress he causes my misus and my little girl to whitness what happened

ok, so trying to run over his head may be a 'bit' harsh. But i know how irritated i get on the road. The slightest thing sets me off in a rage, people not indicating, saying thankyou, braking when theres no need, and genarally faffing about gets me mad.

im not saying the guy should not use his cossie on the road im just sayin he should take more care when driving!

here is more about the case, the guy just drove like a nob all the time by the sounds of it and saw nowt wrong with his driving.

A 23-YEAR-OLD motorist whose dangerous driving caused an 80mph smash in which two people died has been jailed for five years.

Minutes before the fatal crash, one witness said he saw Matthew Scott drive past him in pitch-black conditions on the A596 “like a Formula One” racing driver.

At Carlisle Crown Court last Friday, it emerged that Scott, a former UCB Films worker, was banned from driving in 2002 for speeding.

Magistrates imposed a three month ban after he drove at 79mph on the A596 and reached 60mph while driving through Flimby village, where the limit is 30mph.

Jailing Scott, Judge Barbara Forrester told him: “You didn’t learn any lesson from that.

“It appears that you paid no heed to it at all.”

The apprentice electrician, who was rushing to get to the cinema in Carlisle, smashed his Ford Sierra Cosworth into a Subaru car which was turning into a side road at Highscales near Aspatria.

The impact sliced the Subaru in half. Back seat passengers Steve Harrison, 35, and his sister Liz Haughan, 40, died at the scene from terrible injuries.

Scott, of Yew Tree Farm, Westnewton, near Aspatria, denied two counts of causing death by dangerous driving on October 8, 2004, but a jury convicted him.

During his trial, Scott claimed that he had not seen that the Subaru was indicating to turn right.

The jury heard harrowing details of the tragedy, the aftermath of which was seen by several close relatives of the two people who died.

Mr Harrison and Mrs Haughan, a racehorse owner, had been on their way back from a day out at Carlisle races.

With them in the car was their brother Willy Harrison, who suffered a broken pelvis, collapsed lung, and broken ribs. He spent months in hospital.

Mrs Haughan’s sister Judith Williamson and other relatives were in a car behind and were the first on the scene.

Judge Forrester told Scott: “It is clear from the police who gave evidence that had you been going at 60mph, or within the speed limit, the Subaru would have had time to complete the manoeuvre safely. I’m satisfied your speed on that road in those conditions was greatly excessive.”

She added: “I am concerned that your attitude throughout the trial was that there was nothing wrong with your driving.”

Throughout the events that followed the crash, the bereaved relatives of the victims had conducted themselves with dignity and stoicism, said the judge.

In mitigation, Ron Mitchell said that references written for Scott showed that he did feel remorse for what happened. They described him as a “good man” who had worked hard to achieve good vocational and academic results.

Judge Forrester disqualified Scott from driving for six years and ordered that he pass an extended driving test before he was allowed to drive again. She imposed two concurrent five-year jail terms for each offence of causing death by dangerous driving.

Scott will be eligible for release on licence after he has served half the sentence.

sorry but i HATE whitnesses like that all they know to discribe speeding it " he was driving like a bat out of hell" when in actual fact he was just speeding,,,,,,,,, sorry but the racing driver comment should have been struck off,,,,,,,,,,, just a " hear appeared to be speeding" would have been fine

you cant have a whitness say " i looked into his eyes and he had that look like norman bates,,,,,,, i thought it was gonna kill someone,,,,,,, he looked like a murderer when i seen him last sharpening his axe"

its just dramatising a matter,,,,,,,,,, i would like that same whitness to mention the speed he was doing at that time too,,,,,,,, f he cant mention that then he cant give evidence of that nature

you seen how slow cars look at LIVE races,,,,,,,,,, so that comment is infair imo !!!!!!

but im not justifiying hes driving,,,,,, just that the sentace of FIVE FUCKING YEARS !!!!! is harsh

its MY opinion though !!!!

this accident happened nearly 18 months ago near where i live, it happened on a long stretch of road with at least visibility for 1 1/2 miles. the speed limit on the road is 60mph by the way. and what happenend was the subaru driver pulled right across the path of the saph , the driver judged the speed of the car wrong. ive been through a serious accident like this when a bus done the same to me in my saph cos, unfortunately my car set on fire etc and left me on life support for ages when all came to all the bus driver was at fault and i lost Ł80000 of my claim because the law stated i should have slowed down on the approach to the junction on the off chance that the bus was gonna pull out, how stupid is that. i was put at 25% to blame for that accident cos i was doing 60 mph in a 60 zone which was deemed to fast on the approach to a junction. at first the liability was put at 50/50 but we contested that and decided to take the liability side of it to court, they offered me 60/40% first so we said 90%, then they offered 70/30% so we said 80% then we settled out of court half way at 75%. if it had gone to court they may have got 100% percent of the blame, and then again the fact i had a cosworth and age etc could have meant i could have got most of the blame. its a risk i didnt want to take. as far as i see the accident thats all it was a accident, we all speed at one time but its only when something tragic happens that we are quick to criticise.

forgot to mention the bus driver had 6 weeks off on full pay and didnt get prosecuted. and he as left me paralysed on the left hand side of my face, deaf in my left ear, lost taste in the left hand side of my mouth, knocked my eyes out of line, broke both my feet, fractured my skull in 3 places, had skull drilled to eleviate the pressure on my brain, punctured my lung etc etc the list is endless. left with tinitus in both ears. and so on.
