basically car has a fault and want to know if its a common or known fault and if there is a standard fix for it.
when driving in cold conditions, outside temp, with your foot at a constant pressure on the accelerator it feels like it is hunting/pulling back and forth, a bit like putting your foot on and off!!
the colder it is the worse it is

Tell him to find someone with vagcom and get them todo a fault code check. Will tell you exactly whats wrong.
Saves a lot of headaches in the long run trying to guess which sensor has had a fit.
