Ive got a 1998 car, that currently has a private plate on it that means fook all to me, and i dont think has any real value, unless your name is elleston which mine isnt and im unlikely to find anyone whos name is.

The plate on it makes the car look older, and i want to flog the car so would sooner it looked like an R reg again.

How do i go about transferring off the number plate as cheaply as possible, can i do it without having to pay retention as i dont want to retain it anyway?

 

Only way is flog it or remove it (retention). Someone will buy it or indeed someone will buy the car thinking any kind of plate is cool. Just put P/P valued at Ł400

 

go through phone book to find someone, even if they just pay the transfer!

 

costs Ł80 to transfer it but,if you want to sell it on it has to go on a retention,this costs Ł25.
