After a good chat with Marco,Im all over the place now on what poundage springs to go for on the 3dr...
Any 1 out there running coilovers, can you give me a good idea of what sort of springs your using???
Ive spoke to AVO,but they dont really wanna get involved unless they have the car and do a super bling set up!!!and thats NOT an option (due to price)
Cheers everyone in advance for your help....

That is the problem, you need to make up you mind what you want to achieve, and then listen to ONE person. If you like what Marco says, have a drive of his car - if it does what you want it to, then go with a set-up like his. However, you CAN'T put his spring rates on you budget AVOs and expect it to be even remotely like his car, as his bump / rebound rates will be COMPLETELY different to the AVO "show" stuff.
i got AVO mono tubes on my 3dr, fook knows what the poundage is tho, but its hard enough to shake the boot latch off the slam panel
they cos about 1k tho, not the normal £500 jobbies

.
well it was this low

after i raised it up 1.5" at the rear and 1" at the front it was alot better, cos i found it was riding on the bump stops
seem ok for road now, although a little harsh still even with the damping on softest

Now theres apoint Lee...
Your car is stripped, but havin 4wd,you aint got the "skippy" back end like my 2wd...
Yeh i know i aint got the best coilovers in the world, but unless you all wanna chuck a few quid in each, then im going to have to stick with them....
Im not after the best handling car on earth,i just want to know what a good, decent ratio is... I spoke to Sean last night, and he had 500`s on the front, and cant remember what he had on the rear...
But said his were great for over 2 years road AND track....and they were AVO`s!!
Thing with going in marco`s to see how his is,is we have 2 completely different cars, weight AND power, plus his has ALOT more spec than me....
Is it going to be best just to go for the "road setting" that they do,and just have it on hard when it goes on track,or up it all say 30% and just see how it is....

.When you take the AVOs off, you should be able to see what the spring rates are on the top of each one, find out and at least we can go from there, but if you have to replace all the springs AND refurb them, it's still going to be expensive (at LEAST £300 if all the springs have to be swapped).

HEAVEY braking, and you can feel the back end lifting up!!!! So i KNOW they need doing...

Go for the higher 120lb/f fixed bump option that they have (up from 80) if the car is to be used on the track
.
They normally come with 350/250. The front will probably be okay (once the dampers have been sorted), but the rears are way too hard and you want something like 175 or 150 (if stripped out). You may want to go to 375s on the front to compensate for the lack of bump / rebound range on the AVOs...

Now thats what im after Mike, some one EXPLAINING these things to me...Cause as i said i aint got a SCOOBY DOO about Bump/Rebound/Poundage about all this???!?!?
Pete..
Pete..
Hi Pete
As I said on the phone is about bump / rebound rates thats is the main problem , you have to find out the bump / rebound poundaged and go from there
The main reason why the back end of any cossie gets light is because the front suspension is far too soft , when you brake under high speeds the wieght is all transfered to front causing the back end to go very light
but when you have proper suspension on the front it stops all this
see this is a misconception with most of you lot mension Bilstein and the first thing you lot say is "bloody hell they are too hard " and yet most of you don't even know what they are like on the car , no offence
Tarmac's start from 400/150 and go up in every 10lbs on bump and rebound all the way up to 650/250
Gravels start from 260/110 up to 380 on the front
and one good bouns with the gravel mag rears that they are light weight magnesuim alloy ..one spring is heavyer than the 2 shocks put together
I dont care what anyone says for what they COSTthey are the best out of all of the normal coilovers ...... i know i have tryed loads of coilovers they either leak/break or bend one of the 3.....
I would only take these of my car if i was to have something like proflex /ohilins/ Reiger all with remote resiviors of corse
cheers Marco

Now its al gettin clearer!!!!
SO for the tarmac settings you said, for a car like mine,as a rd/track car, would the 400/150 option be a good 1 for me???

i dont really care too much on the road side of things ..as i dont mind a harsher ride .. but the Leda's are quite good on damping for me ..
think i have 200 rears and 350 fronts (was 3 years ago)
but i think my springs are too long .. i am at the lowest seting in the fact i have no thread left and the springs are looking very compressed .
so do i need shorter springs and helpers .. can someone post up a pic of a cossie on coilovers showing the front springs ???
also .. about ride height .. do you measure from the middle of the wheel arch to floor or centre of wheel to floor?? i know the front needs to be an inch lower than the rears..
thanks chaps

I have Gaz coilovers with 325lbs springs on the front of my 3dr, used to have koni shocks but found them far to soft for trackdays. Haven't been back on track with these coilovers yet to see what their like. Cost me about £200 for the fronts from memory, from Cossiemad Chris.
Simon.
Simon.
Eagle
I also have Leda fitted with 8" springs.
Same as you, too high with the adjustment at the end.
Was thinking of going to 7".
Need to contact J Stubbs at Leda for some advise.
