Did a track day at Donny last weekend, the Fiesta is quick in a straight line but was pretty shocking on the corners TBH

Who can set-up coilovers, adjustable arms etc....

Really want to make the handling top notch.

Does anyone know what sort of set-up a typical mk3 Fiesta race car uses? Ford saloon championship type cars?

 

You'd be better off talking to someone who use a Fiesta racecar ,
simon No #13 ( currently painting porkies car ) does that championship and maybe able to recommend a firm that knows the "tricks " of the trade . Zoo of course are an obvious choice , just offering an option !

I'll be contacting simon No #13 to see if he can give any advice, but does any one else know of people that race/track mk3 fiesta's that could help/point me in the right direction.

I'm not really sure on the fiesta ....but i'm doing a Rs2000 mk5 at the min

and i'm fitting some grp a tarmac bilstien coilovers to it and Brom has made me some of the adjustable front arms for it aswell which will help it massively

with the Grp a tarmac inserts i have to fit them in a different strut casing to fit the front of rs 2000 hub but this is only going to be a 100% track car i'm not even going to use it on the rd


i'm am also looking to fit a Rs focus back end to it and rose joint all of it
to make it fully ajustable


I would defo put some decent coilovers on on your car don't bother with the harder and lower spring bullshite kits out there...... absolutly no good for track use

I've got GAZ coilovers at the mo, but will deffo be gettin rose jointed lower arms. The problem at Donny was you only got the 20 min session to try different damper settings. It got better towards the end of the day but I'm impatient!

Marco, what slicks do you recommend? The road tyre equivelant is 195/45/15. What sort of price are we talkin?

 

Tommy Fields Dad (aka Tommy Field senior) is a suspension setup wizard! Not sure what it involves as i know fook all about it but he uses corner weights etc..... He also has a mk3 fiesta trackcar!!! Might be worth giving Field Motorsport a call.

I offer corner weight service, can also set castor/camber,tracking, check bump steer, our rate is £30+vat per hour.

Also near Bedford track, 10mins away.

 

Im currenlt think of improving my suspension as im not really that happy with it....

Marco wher do you get all the Bilstien stuff rom, is it A1 Rallysport as ive spoken to then about it in the past.

Really wana make my suspension fully adjustable to get the most from the car and the GAZ coilovers are cheap and cheerfull and thats it, havnt got a good thing to say about them really.

I know ill be taking my car to the ZOO at some point to let brom work his magic on it

NUTS RuS (Tony) may be able to help.

 

You could take it to Northampton Motorsport, they specialise in 4 wheel alignment.

They do a lot of Westfields aswell as road and track cars.

I wouldn't do it anywhere other than on a circuit myself.

You can set some basic settings in beforehand if you have adjustability, then take it from there.

The trouble with setting it in a workshop is you pay your money and they say there you go its perfect.... you take it to the track and it handles like a dog for your style of driving, then you bad mouth off the people who set it up.

On track (trackday or private) you can test all modifications until your happy the car does what YOU want it to. Not for me, marco, danny, brom or anyone to say what your ultimate set up is as I have yet to find the ultimate road surface to drive on lol.

Workshops are good for setting a datum (gathering known settings) and working forwards from there, but the best and only place is out on track IMHO

Places like all the above will be very good - but are geared more towards the driver knowing what or how he wants the car to handle.

I think I'll get it set-up somewhere and then try and get on some open pit lane track days and try altering the settings.

Any time you want to take it out and adjust things is fine by me!!!

 

Do you know what you are currently running in terms of geometery settings ? Take it somewhere and get it logged, start a little notebook or history going. You will soon learn what does what - or what has the biggest effect as you try things and either make it better or worse.

 

I had it checked at my mates garage and the tracking is as it should be for road use. Been advised since that 1.5mm toe out would make the car turn into corners better.

Notebook is a good idea.

On a powerfull FWD would you advise the damper settings to be hard at the front and softer at the rear?

Will we notice a big difference once the multipoint cage is welded in?
