That is simply INSANE. over 200mph on a public road... Holy fucking shit! I mean yeah, it's impressive, but it's also simply insane....

What Rod and Mark do in Rod's animal of a Saff, doing over 200mph on test tracks and runways is nuts in itself, but going over 200mph on a public highway... Pure and utter insanity!!!

 

He looks pretty fooking calm aswell... Mind you....it's not like it's a shonky old ford

 

To be honest it don't matter what car it is, how calm you are or even how good a driver you are - could be Michael Schumacher, but if you get a blowout or some twat in front of you panics or moves over without looking - your dead. Simple.

 

its a safe bet IMO. i'm sure BMW have done tests on the M5 @ those sort of speeds and are happy with it. (i know the sell them limited but they'd surely test them de-limited)

as for a blowout at 200mph, wouldn't fancy your chances in any road car, be it on the road, at brunters or on a race track.

I know of quite a few people thats done it.

If your cars quick enough it dont take a lot of space so a quiet motorway and its easy done.

 

But at least on a track, runway etc you aren't likely to possibly take out a bunch of other people with you

And it don't matter HOW much BMW test their cars - it only takes one minro defect in a tyre thats not rated to run at over 200mph to blow - and no ammount of testing or expirience as a driver can mean you can predict what other people on the road are gonna do

Remember, 200mph equates to 5363meters per 60secs - that means every second you are covering 89 meters Someone pulls out on you, you got no fucking chance have you....

 

Steve, I never said people HAVEN'T done it and I never said if your cars quick enough then it's not easy to do did I? We're also not talking about getting up to 200mph, as seen in that vid we're talking about getting upto it and SUSTAINING it....

I said I thought it was just plain insane to do it on a public highway, with other road users about. The road he was on WAS quite quiet agree'd. But there were still people on it. And as I said, considering you are cover 89 meters every second you sustaine that speed, you don't have much hope of avoiding an accident if someone pulls out without looking....

And before someone callously says "well their own fault for not looking" - the driver of the car is still dead, the people in the car that pulled out are still dead, and very highly likely that people behind and in front may well end up dead aswell....

road looks pretty clear, straight and smooth to me. course u got risks of blow outs but u takes your chances. he might even have those continental vmax tyres rated to 220mph, i think thats the make bmw actually use

anyway, ppl have been doin 170 + on the road in fast cossies for aaaaages, even more in the more powerful ones and they much worse built/prepared for those speeds than what a brand new bmw is!

I can't say I am very expirienced in high speed driving tho - fastest I have ever gone is an (indicated) 145mph in a Supra, and indicated 140mph in both my S1's, which a lowly indicated 125mph in my little 3i And my current Onion has only managed 110

I have actualy rolled a car at 125

 

My point is you'd have a BETTER chance of avoiding an incident when driving at 150 than you would at 200mph.... I don't see why none of you can see this, or all you all to blinkered.... I didn't say it was fine to do 150 did I? Go back and read properly man - I said I, personally, would draw the line at 150 as the highest speed I would achieve on an open road. But back up htere I said that my own personal cruising speed is around 100mph, which in realisty is closer to 90mph anyway, when doing long stints on the motorway. Nowhere did I say it's safe to do 150mph everywhere

But I guess the only way this argument is gonna end is if the governement either raise the speed limit to 150mph or we all get out our cars - cos I guess it's still not safe to travel at 10mph as we can still have an accident right?
