AP Racing have just done an organic clutch friction plate with a paddle clutch pressure plate for my mates 400+bph zetec turbo - cost just over £400 as i remember - PM Guzzler (Matt) at Power Engineering as he was involved in arranging it

P.S - The car drives beautifully with it in - so much better than a paddle!

The best clutch in the std configuration is an AP 3560-2 cover with AP 4 paddle 5354-15 plate. Avoid the Alcon, its not up to more than 250bhp.

The above AP will cope with 350bhp but no more.

After 350bhp you will need a suitably rated 7 1/4 twin plate clutch, with suitable flywheel and hydraulic slave cylinder.

There is only 1 option a twin plate set up, anything else will be a waste of time.

Not sure who does the correct input shaft size but I would call AP and others, The likelyhood you will need to do the development work yourself.

I would also recomend a diff gearbox as its life will be in hours whatever you do with a B5.

I would definitely NOT recommend an Alcon clutch as well - only did 2k with mine and the plate is down to just above the rivets (as I have split the car). The engine was only pushing out c. 240bhp and perhaps slightly higher lb.ft figure as well! Not impressed!

As said a twin-plate is really the way to go for that kind of power - I know that Sunny has spent alot of time mucking about with it all, not sure whether he's still using a Stage 2+ Bernie BC box or not though!

Cheers,

Andy

With regard to the twin plate setup I recommend only using the organic linings for your application. Avoid cerametalic and sintered plates for your application Rob.

As Mark has mentioned you will need to do some R&D to get this spot on for your application. I am in the process of developing a twin plate 7 1/4 kit at a competitive price for FWD applications but sadly the R&D is not finished so I can't offer the kit to you at the moment.

I also agree with Mark that the B5 simply cannot cope beyond 350bhp. Oli's cvh powered car is now at 350bhp and the gearbox last a VERY limited amount of time!

Rob,

Check with 'turboboss' off this site and Fiestaturbo.com. He has a twin plate...though I'm not sure what it is manufac-wise.

WTF?

Mine is miles nowhere near 400bhp, perhaps not even 300bhp, but I was more referring to the remarks about the Alcon not being able to handle 250bhp. I know mine is at least that.
