Escort GTI buying advise - please help a newbie
Hi, please help, im a newbi to this site, Ive got a bmw 318is coupe at the moment 102k with fbmwsh, m3 wheels lowered its mint, put it up for sale, someone has offered a mint 98 escort gti as a straight swap, its red 3 door done 84k with ffsh, just been serviced + new mot, its seems to be in superb order, on the down side its got no air con - the guy did have it up for sale for £2250 is this about right ???? ive got mine up for £2295 so they seem to be worth about the same. is there anything I shoulb be looking out for? thanks James
mmm, im not too hot on that mark of Escort, but i've seen the arches go on some so check those. i doubt it will be rusting underneath yet so you'll be ok there, but check anyway.
its mainly the panel gaps that u need to check for. also make sure u HPI it.
And after u have taken it for a drive, leave the engine running and watch the temp gauge, dont want to buy it to find the head gasket has gone.
im not sure what to look for on the engines though sorry

That sounds spot on for the price mate
As for what to look out for, not much really just the usual stuff you'd look at when buying any car and check it idle's ok as the throttle position sensors are a weak point on these, not a hard fix but im sure you dont want to buy it then have to put this right.
Also check rear arches but you say its mint so it should be ok.
If all is ok then buy it

there others about for the less money...
my mates got a r reg met blue gti, mint, no rust. with lpg gas conversion (£1200 - 200 miles for £15), mondeo cossie style 16's, leather and air for 2k.
that other one sounds abit dear for a lower spec...
