Following our lengthy discussion here https://passionford.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=164677 i bought a used distributor off a guy on RSOC and fitted it today and problem solved

I lined the new dizzy up with the line on the block and it started straight away and runs fine

So thanks for your help mate as i wouldn't have fixed it otherwise

YEAAAAAA!!!!

Thats what i like to hear, someone else said thanks earlier aswell

Thats what we are all here for

Just one last thing though, either check the timing yourself with a gun or get someone else to check it, in theory it should be spot on but check it just incase its slightly off.

I bet you were chuffed that you changed it yourself. Now would be an IDEAL time to learn how to use a timing gun, if the timing is out you can't cause any damage with it ticking over, only when your giving it some stick will damage be caused.

I think i will need to get the timing done cos the revs have started to jump up and down between about 800 - 1100 rpm when idling

Does that sound like timing problem to you?
