could be sommit serious but could also be condensation got uner the cap. doesnt help if you do alot of short journeys or keep the car stood for a while. but could be the dreeded water getting into the oil syndrome. are you losing any water?

mine has i tiny bit on the dipstick, i'm putting it down to condensation as the dipstick isn't really sealed tightly and it's only done it over the winter when i havent used the car so much.

although mine isn't a cos it's the same, i too am putting it down to the weather as it was fine in the summer and isn't using alarming amounts of water.

my mayo [ooer] is only in the dipstick tube and rocker box aswell, so although when you remove the dipstick you think the sump is full of white shite which is gonna bung up oil galleries but it isn't, well not on mine anyway.

i also do alot of short journeys throughout the week but do try to give it a gentle blast at weekends which results in no shit on the dipstick, but usually a engine bay full of oil from a split breather or something, now it's getting a bit depressing and i tend to not open the bonnet unless i really have to - this is gauged depending on size of oil patch left on the driveway in the morning!

If its just on dip stick, and you have used it for a while might just be condensation etc. Keep eye on it though!

I have the same thing!
White gunk on dipstick and oil filler, i do loads of short journeys, praying its not the headgasket. its not smoking, drives normally, and uses a tiny bit of water, but i know theres a small leak on the thermostat gasket so put it down to that. Could i be this lucky too do you think?

i get condensation in my breather kit, with mayo but anywhere else i'd say defo have the gasket checked, it doesn't take much for the fibrous gaskets to go crap and seep into galleries. and head gasket weeping isn't as serious as it may sound.

The water in the header tank looks fine. Is there a way to check the head gasket i.e a compression tester?

One way to tell is to run it till its good and hot (give it at least an hours driving), then let it cool overnight and check again. If the white stuff is back, it's not looking good for the HG...
