Thanks pee vee , I have tried Burtons as well as a few other well known companies over there and no one seems to have one. Mike Rainbird generously tried all his contacts including Bernie from CTS to no avail

If I’m not mistaken I may have sent Gear Box man an email threw his web site. That is if we are talking about the same person.

i have been informed by bernie (gearboxman / CTS) that they are no longer available. i will be rebuilding my t5 in the next couple of weeks and will have to be careful when removing it.

on this topic, someone else said that they could be bought from USA, but not sure if it's true. i hope i don't have to find out.

Try Quaife, i think they do a standard replacement.

Thanks for the replies guys I have tried a few companies in the States and the replies I got were that the GM T5’s ran 27splines and the Ford T5’s ran 28 splines where as the Cossie’s run 23 splines.

There has been talk of a gear company here that “may” take on the job of manufacturing 100 gears, this is not someone I have dealt with personally so cannot confirm for shore, needless to say that I’m interested if anything comes of it.

In a worst case scenario it does seem that Quaife does seem to have a replacement

2wd, that site is a good find, you must have got luck with your 5th gear thought, cos I e-mailed them and a person called Paul replied back saying that the 5th gears are discontinued

It might be worth checking to make shore the correct item was sent to you. It should have 23 splines on the ID and 33 teeth on the OD. The part number should be 1352-070034.

Oh they are ok...splines and P.number where fine and both boxes are working perfect, no prob there

I'm sorry to hear that they are discontinued... but I hope that you will find another 5th gear wheel...

broke mine at the weekend trying to remove it

picked up another box for Ł50 thanks to costina, so will mix and match the best parts of 2 gearboxes to make 1 (keeping gear pairs matched of course)

Bummer

You will have to be careful not to damage the 5th gear when removing it from the ‘box you just bought

exactly. got the technique down now though, and the special puller made up. it's just those first few millimetres that are tricky, as there is very little gap behind the gear to get a puller on. and if you only use a small one, you are putting all the force through the teeth, rather than the flat of the rear of the gear

i'll post some up later. basically, it's just a normal 3 leg puller with the 'teeth' ground down thin, and the short legs replaced by equal length (very important) long legs
