obviously got a good deal on a job lot......
or they only had one spray gun and it took too long to clean between jobs.....

According to Clarkson on QI, it's arse...
He never said that, and Model T's weren't available in black, or if they were, for an extra cost (memory fails me).
He also didn't invent the production line, he perfected it. Again, if memory serves, it was Colt who first used the idea.

IIRC from a documentary I once half missed, the Model T was available in various colours when it was a low volume car. When the T became a high volume product, only the black would dry fast enough, coupled to the fact that there would be the need for lots of different paint plants as cleaning one out to do a batch of colours would take too long.

I know on the XR3i's (mk4, dunno bout mk3) that to have black paint was an option that cost about £300 more
