Default OIL

A chap at work has been banned from driving for a year or so now, he gets his Licence back tomorrow but hasnt driven his car for a year, It has been left on his drive which he starts once in a while. He has booked the car in for a service on Thursday, but he is going to drive the car tomorrow. With the oil being left for over a year and then being used will this do any damage to the engine????????

No. BUT he needs to crank the engine over for 30s with the fuel pump disconnected (so no fuel going in to engine) to build up the pressure in the engine BEFORE he starts it, as in that time ALL the oil will have drained from the top of the engine and so starting it straight off will mean brief (but damaging) metal to metal contact.
