I forgot this was on, and was supposedly THE best drifting thing the UKs ever seen by MILES.
Proper madness, and Ken "Monkey" Nomura (the bloke who drifts that silver 4door R34 skyline, like in that famous vid clip with the orange S13) was fookin there drifting too!

Supposedly hardly any spectators turned up as the advertising for it was shit and nobody belived they could get a drift legend like Monkey to come. They were wrong!

Meant to have been mad action, no pussy technical ballet dancing like UKD1, it was mental tyre shredding, car smacking, dangerous as fuck, everyone drifting at once, madness
Everyone talking about it on the SXOC drift forum going on that they shaking as it was such an adrenaline rush ffs...

Rikki- Many proper drift events are just at basic ovals etc, more and more all the time abroad, as it works.
Silverstone drift events are criticeised loads as its boring n too hard to drift really wildly.

Dont need a proper race set of corners, infact you usualy dont want that, but ovals with a few removable hazards give the best oppertunity to go mad in style.

And nice armco ovals mean you get to see plenty of cars mashed into the barriers, lol.

ROFL@RichW, but no,duno of any AE86s, not at a senesible price anyhow!

 

 

Fuck an AE86, S13 200SX, buy it for about 500, i can get it to 300bhp for about the same again (if u clever ), strip it, weld the diff solid, and awaaaaaay you go

 

why dont you do it then steve its only a fucking grand!
i spent more than that in mcdess in a year

 

So have i, and about 10 times that on the GTR

But its still not done and a grand is still a fair wedge for me when the thing aint finished (plus insurance, and millions of tyres!)

And id lower it, and give the front a load of camber (more money, and no doubt be tempted with polybushes etc as S13s are sloppy like mikes momma as standard )

I sooo wana tho, like biigtime (the car will stay lookin std tho as it will be in the armco/hedgegrows at remarkable regularity )

before, std internals, they not weak.

550cc inj, Z32AFM, decent cooler, zorst, fuelpump n turbo, and suitable chip, n u well away.

I wanna know if my saff is gonna be suitable for drifting.

I'm gonna do this next year, as I drifted round Sliverstone anyway last time out - might as well try and do it properly.

Just worried that the saff is too snappy with the rear end - 200SXs seem much more progressive. Must be due to the overall balance of the car......

I dont think saffs are snappy in a way that cant be sorted, no car is unless maybe they got a rear engine or summat, its all in the suspension setup, the geometry.

I dont see a reason why saffs cant drift brilliantly with the right setup, relatively light and the weight in similar place to most RWDs.
Tho heard they havent got much steering lock compared to some cars, tho i think youl have to be drifting at some serious angles before that becomes an issue!

I think people get the idea that SXs are good drifters compared to other RWDs becuase they common drifters, i dont think that the case at all. They common as they the obvious choise where drifting is most popular, japan, and the trend just spreads.
If Cosworths were a mass produced car in the Japanese market im damn sure the tuned car world would be VERY different than how it is now.

Alsways liked the idea of a saff drifter, or a 3door, well actually a cossie kitted estate would look pretty cool too, a P100 pickup would be spot on but i understand they weigh upwards of 1400kg...

That really is a cool car, lose the wing and that could be quite subtle for the road too. That looked wide arch???!?

Is there any favoured set up, i have read the set up on Jap 200SX s as having 8/9/10Kg springs on the car, how would that translate in lbs over here, they dont have body roll so would it be something silly like 500-800lb springs on the rear?? Would i be better off with a plate type or ATB, i was thinking the ATB type for minimal slip? And does anyone do a steer rack with more lock on it as I have been on the limit of mine and want about 1/2 turn more as the arse isnt far enough out

 

Yes it has a very widearch kit on it...
Far from an ultimate drift car tho...

Very basicly the full-on drift setup is...

Very low n very hard suspension (no idea why, i think to minimise any weight transfer). Companys like Tein actually make drift specific suspension packages...

Almost locked (esp on acceleration) diff.

Lots of steering angle (big downside to a cossie, as they dont have much). No idea how youd get more angle, but SXs etc have a lot as std and the serious cars are modded to get even more.

LOTS of front camber, makes the car appaling to drive in a straight line, but keeps the front wheels in the perfect angles to grip on some serious drfits.

They use suprisingly wide rear tyres too, no idea why tho, youd think itd be the opposite, tho i think its to enable very high speed drifting, as with crapper tyres itd drift at far lower speeds.

Better front tyres than rears is often a good idea too.

And a flyoff handbrake!

Dont need lots of power usualy, contrary to what a lot of people think, lots of power often makes it harder for the beginner, and even the top D1 AE86s have under 200bhp (tho the top SXs etc have usualy got about 400bhp).

Its a very complex thing, the setup on a "proper" dift car is just as complicated and precise as a full-on pro racecar.

 

And its a LOT about having the bottle to do it, and not worrying about crashing your car.

The top D1 competitors in Japan etc are always damaging their cars, as to be the best you have to take some mental risks

they are the same cars that were at silvesrtone dude. meant to say saturday.

was good fun to watch. the silver 4dr skyline was cool and the driver was a top drifter, he won the third round.

will be going to 4th round i think

 

errr ok then, go have a look on the sxoc board..do a search on s13 and bottom end, then read thru the ten pages of posts you will get back with people saying their bottem ends have gone, they all seem to do it at the 100,000 miles mark

 

Im going to the d1 final with my local cruise site can't wait even tho its in october

so do you expect to pick up a 40,000 miler with full service history and one careful pensioner owner for £500 get real, it will be a high miler like all the rest of them, i looked into getting one of these before the rs and was put way off by the bottom end thing as i dont have a garage to work on it in, they all go at the bottom end and they are known to do it early, just if it hasnt it will when it comes to near the 100k mark, also the turbo oil feed pipes had an early on problem with getting blocked with crud
