Head gasket was done about 4 or 5k ago when we first got it Matt!
They all go so if you find one that hasnt had it done, then it needs doing!
This is a really nice car mate! She wouldnt be dissapointed!

Whats the deal with the head gasket then?
Is the replacement different to the original to prevent/cure the problem or is it liable to need doing again?
I'm sure she'll be intrested as we cant find a good MX5, she wants the face lift model but all the ones I've been to view within her budget were dogs, typical women, found loads of old shape ones with pop up lights but she wont have it, the newer it is the better it must be

Headgasket failure on these is due to overheating. Even though they are not turbo, for some reason you have to treat them like one. Dont thrash it till the oil and water temp is at normal, then warm it down before you pull up and let it idle (like with a turbo) for a few minutes when you pull up to let the oil and water stabalise a normal temp again!
