Default 1.7 engine re-build

Has anybody on here ever re-build there 1.7 vct lump? i've heard that its a no go area on the bottom end (i cant see why this should be?) just after abit of info if anybody can help me.

the engine has done 100k and is starting to smoke blue when really giving it some.

hoping it dont have to get it done by a specalist

i think because the cranckshaft is laser alligned m8.
u would probaly be better gettin a full engine. it would be cheaper

i picked a 30k engine for Ł1400 and that was with the loom an ecu

u only need the engine so it mite be around Ł900

I only paid Ł450 for the engine 2 and half years ago

i did think about getting another engine but i want to have a play with it

didnt see u had a 1.7 fez

i could just be valve stem oil seals that are away.

dont know if any1 has done any performance tuning on the 1.7 apart from the usual zuast, filter an chip.

i will sell u mine

I know someone who has a turbo 1.7 (done properly with low comp pistons etc etc) ford dont even sell brand new short blocks no more

i know of a place that is fairly local to me that do zetec tuning so i better get in contact with them

pumabuild sell the short block. and im not sure but i think you can take the pistons and rods out without removing the crank.

pumabuild have done the whole rebuild on woodys fiesta. they had to take the crank out to bore the block to a 2litre. it can be done, the whole rebuild thing is hear'say in my opinion.

its the same as the 1.6, everybody says it cant be rebuilt but how do you balance the bottom end when building a super1600 engine?

Pumabuild haven't actually carried out the engine work on mine, it was done by Swindon Race Engines and bored, stroked etc by them.

I done the engine conversion myself.......

There is a company in plymouth who do alot with zetec's think there called paul ince
