hey jus regestered and stuff so hi to evryone and now to the point i read thru the other problems that ppl were having with there mk 6 escort 1.8 si and im having the same kind of problems but mine are slightly different if im stopping from whateva speed normaly when its cold the revs either stick above or below the 1000 rev mark untill i stop then it returns back to normal but on occasions my revs have droped to 500 revs on standstill aswell. aswell as that its got quite a rough idle you can see the rev marker moving about up and down and all over the place very anoying and wana sort it so any advise you can give would be helpfull...thanks guys

ps..am also thinking of fitting some small mods to the engine wondered what you thought and if you had any other ideas that would be good aswell..

THe mods you metntion wontmake any difference, the zetec already has platinum plugs and the leads from motorcraft are ideal, any other leads can cause misfiring! Induction kit, unless a well known manufacturer may not last very long and may give you less power!

As far as the problem goes, it sounds like speed sensor fromt he gear box, so when you are stood still it idles at 900rpm, but if you were to creep down a hill the revs would climb to 1200? SOunds like it s this. If you look at the rear of the gear box near the speedo drive there should be a wire coming up to a connector, tyr cleaning this connector!

idle control valve is fooked.. get a new one.. its a common fault

p.s theirs very little you can do to the engine to get big power except throttle boddies or a turbo

 

i'm having similar problems... my engine cuts out when to cold - and when warms up a bit, idles about 500rpm... until you've done about 2 miles

i'm going to replace mine tommorow to see if it makes a difference (will let you know, could help)

 

There's alot of common faults on these engines, all with similar symptoms.

2 things normally show up on the fault code:

1. Emission control valve - sits at front of block on right hand side
2. Potentiometer - sits on the throttle body near the air filter



Try the Emissions valve first as its cheaper

 

Mine was doing this, i got a 1.8si 115ps version, 1 wivout efi! i took the idle control valve its under the throtte body, complete arse to get of, then once of sprayed shitloads of wd40 in side it, i mean soaked it, poured it out, do this 2 or 3 times! then put it back on, worst than getting it off!! , start it up may run a bit funny, take it for a good run rnd the block it sud start to idle better, mine did neway!!!

Deffo idle control valve my GTi was doing exactly the same thing. Took the valve of cleaned it out, coated it with good old WD40 then reset ecu. Make sure you reset ecu cus mine ran a bag of sh*t till i reset it

 

I just bought a new idle control valve of ebay for mine mk6 115ps, seller called the-ford-shop, sells them all the time, I did clean mine old 1 and did make it beta for a few months, but started doing it again!!

Fitted the new 1 and it idle at 2500rpm, so i disconnected the battery for a couple of hours to reset the ecu, reconnected the battery, started it up, idles perfecty, sat a 1500rpm on cold start, took it for a spin, now sits just below a grand!!!

New valve cost me 48.98 including p+p, from the seller "the-ford-shop" there always seller them!!
