Just with the central locking as standard ,is the bootlid delocked ,then it may have another one fitted ,to operate from a switch or a fob

The solenoid you can see is to locl/unlock the boot with the central locking. You dont need an electronic boot release on a Escort because the boot will open without a key if the doors are unlocked.Regards Micky

mmmm thats what i thought, thing is the boot will lock with the key but it wont unlock, when i activate te alarm the boot doesnt lock/unlock and when i unlock the car with the key the boot doesnt unlock, is there a relay/fuse just for the boot somewhere or does it work as a full system? regards cheers....also are these common in playing up??

Sounds like a dodgy or sticky solenoid, trip to the breakers needed ,no relay or fuse that i know of ,would affect the whole system if it was a fuse.

I had this problem, there should be a metal piece of wire between the solenoid and the actual lock, which is used only for the central locking.

When activated, it pushes the wire, which in turn pushes the lock down, so locked. When unlocking, it pulls the wire thus unlocking.

I bought an xr3i with this problem, any escort with central locking should have this piece of wire.

If you need more info send me a pm.

ok here is a picture of the things in question.

the yellow circle shows the wire which pushes the lock open

the blue arrow is the solenoid?

my lock only works off the key so im guessing that i need to get a new solenoid. when i do the central locking i get no noises or movement from the tailgate lock region.

if you don't figure it out they sell universal boot unlockers if you didn't know.. thats a really great security investment.. the boot lock on the mk4 is horrible when you want people to stay out of there..
