well was hoping to have the front end stripped down ready for cleaning and paiting today this is how far i got lol

well its up in the air front wheels are off and thats it least u can see just how mingin it looks ill update this as and when things get done as its gonna be done at weekends when the weather lets me just hope its gonna be worth while

 

lol grunter my Cossie owning Derby PF member...the weather is no excuse cos on the same day you gave up doing your bushes, I and my m8 took out my engine, removed whale tail, front bumper, rs500 intercooler, headlamps, many engine bay componants, wing mirrors, radiator......suspension underside next

 

lol i did the best i could mate i was soakin wet and was in a foul mood due to lack of sleep lol hopefully should have some major process this week gonna get ma self a light and work in the dark today would of been a good day but had made other arrangements typical eh???? *just wanna drive her now lol* love is a funny thing pmpl

 

lol it started to get me down abit when it started snowing at one point

 

get one of those tent things from b& q mate ! keep the rain off and you can work on the car all you like

 

lol now theres a good idea mate might just price one up lol

 

think there about Ł20, look similar to the tents they use in the world rally car races !

gonna go have a look this weekend lol well ill be out there tonight armed with my lead light and tools the neighbours will love me lol

 

i bought some of the portable lights from screw fix, big halogen jobs, really good for the garage and keep you warm as well

 

doubt if they will keep me warm cos ive not got a garage need one really tho my gf will never c me then lol

 

my missus goes mad the amount of time i spend in the garage. got some cracking ramps and a good trolley jack. the car spens more time on top of me than she does ! sad really

 

lol i aint surprised she goes mad at u mate must admit i aint that bad now but i use to be...... well poor progress again today i.e done nothing was to late when i got in grrrr but couldnt be helped i have the motivation know how and tools but just not enough hours in a day lol

 

well i was rather impressed when i removed the arch liner

then i noticed the side skirt was loose and a rather damp patch in the bottom of the wing. so after further investigation i found that some plank *not me* had either jacked it up on the bottom of the wing or used the original jack wrong so im now left with a bent wing and yes yet more welding work . problem is it already needed a new wing but was gonna wait till end of year to do it as i intended gettin it painted then


ive decided im gonna do a tempory repair so i can go to some shows this year then when it comes off the road again replace both wings now im getting into the neva ending money pit called cosworth lol

 

Wow I wish I'd known about these tents before! Spent days over Xmas looking at the rain coming down while wanting to install my new stereo gear, in the end did it in the rain getting in a really bad mood and the car getting well damp

 

yeah me 2 mate heart breakin wasnt it

 

ah progress at last lol floor to sill welding done shocker top bushes fitted no problems at all.... anti roll bar painted bushes fitted same again no problem waitin for calipers and hubs coming back next week so i can paint them and fit the new bearings and track control arms..... no photos atm but should be next week

Managed to get the rear end of my car apart today!

full polybush set goin in. getting the beam mounts out isnt too
much of a problem.,.. BUT, the trailing arm mounting bushes,
took 9 tonns of pressure to get them out!!

all back together tomorrow i hope! (bloody hope pmsl)

 

i burned mine out

 

9 tonns to get em out fkn el hope mine aint that bad lol should have all the stuff 2 put the front back together next weekend then i can attack the rear

I got the front suspension stripped out today, front cross member and the like and started to remove the engine loom out of the empty bay. Removed a good chunk of the body kit and chucked the wheels on the missuses Puma (gotta treat her occasionly lol). It was top weather for working on cars today (for the time of year)...not raining, not cold cant complain.

Next wk end im hoping to strip down the rear beam and remove the gearbox and prop (held up with a jack at mo lol)

Wk end after that im aiming to have new o/s/f wing and o/s door fitted up (managed to find gen ford new old stock items )

nice 1 mate decided mine havein a repaint back end of this year its mainly waitin for parts thats holding me up lol got shox back in and new shocker top bushes temporelly (xcuse ma spellin) hung the new exhaust and it sounds awsome cant wait to drive her wi that on so if anyone wants a 3in mongoose with a 4in tail gis a shout see wot we can sort out lol

 

the Rear end of mine is all back together now!!
good thing too! the old bushes were totally screwed!





i expect it will take the hydralic press to get yiur bushes out mate,
they are a metal insert with rubber inside them, so its a metal-metal
contact that you gotta get out, which is what takes the pressure!!
(IM ONLY talking about rear end bushes here, front end ones are in 2 halfs and almost fall out! )

 

thanx for the info mate its lookin nice wot bushes u used??? was gettin the back end out easy???? my stuff is coloured met blue an met black

 

i ended up using deflex rear end bushes,
as lots of people had told me they were good.
i wasnt tooo bothered about colouring all mine, just the
fact it was off and looking a bit tatty, so we painted it up.

Getting the rear end off the car was no real trouble
(once you realised what you had to take off)
it was just getting the bushings pressed out, and new ones pressed in that was the trouble.

If your goin for the rear end too (unless you dont need the car)
then i'd buy a spare beam and trailing arms and get them sorted out
before taking anything apart!!

 

id thought of taht mate just havin the money to di it that way things are a bit tight at the moment..... im using deflex ones allround mate will have to let us know how it drives with them done

 

its drives quite well!!
Noticably better than it did before.
as when we got the old bushings out it became clear just how foooked they were!! a good bit of play in them

The one thing that is noticable is (because i fitted the big dome beam mounts too) that the road noise from the rear has increased slightly.
but thats to be expected really!!

but the bushes definitly a worthwhile thing to do mate!

 

im doin them cos there all in a bad way mate can see that with how the back wheels are toeing in it trashed my back tires.... so i just thought sod it there all as old so ill do the lot for how much they cost.... not bothered about noise lol the stereos louder

Buying a spare rear beam seems a good shout!! buy it fit the bushes and clean it all up and there is no rush1

Well, took my car for a little blast this evening
you wil be pleased to hear, the bushes are Definitly worth the money!

the rear end of the car feels far more solid, and quite re-assuring

I dunno how much stiffer they are than standard, as mine were shagged.
but definitly feels alright now!

how you intending getting your rear beam bushes in???just curios and need to do mine

 

no pics as yet mate should have some monday or tues with the front end stuff all painted and ready to go on........ not sure how im doin the rears yaet been told there rite bitches to do just my luck.... if i find a easy way ill let u know lol

 

To do the beam bushes,
Unbolt the plates that hold the beam on, (2 x 17mm bolts and 1x 19mm bolts each side)
lower the rear beam slightly (easiest if you do 1 side at a time)

when there is a gap between the bush and the chassis of the car,
you can put a little block of wood between the two, and then
jack the beam back up again, you can heat it up to help it out!

after a bit of heat and jacking, it should just pop out!

take everything off,
diff, arms, beam the lot,
and go in search of a press!
the beam bushes are easiest if you press them in.
and arm bushes are definitly easiest to press out!!
the new ones slide in pretty easily though!
