Default CVH's and Cambelts - can you be lucky ?

Mate has just picked up a tidy 2i off Ebay, driving it home and I get the call "its cut out" "won't start" .... etc

It's snapped its belt already

I warned him not to get a Ford, but he wants to strip it and build a cheap rally car for some fun.

So has the fun already started ? Do they smash themselves to bits when letting go

Probably cheaper to get another engine from a breakers for 60 quid, and fit a new belt at the same time

Already working on that one, I didn't even think it worth grabbing the compression tester, when he then told me they had tried to bump start it at 50mph whilst towing it home.

Looks like the rest of my days sorted then

I want it back running by 6pm at the latest

well if it wasnt mullered when the belt went i reckon towing it at 50 then dropping the clutch will have done it a power of good.

Change the belt and see if it starts and runs.

I had a rover 416 belt go on me at 4500rpm on the motorway and all I needed was a new belt

Must admit when my CVH went i got a new belt to see first, but ended up taking the head off and it had bent two valves.

My engine just died, didn't make any nasty noises at all, the first thing you then do without thinking is re-start!

Makes you wonder why Ford didn't think about putting pockets in the pistons from word go !!, i bet it would have saved them some money in warranty if cam belts broke !!

Sorry to here about your engine.

I've got two spare CVH's and i'm in Stockport, I would mined getting rid of one so make me an offer.

One's out of an XR3i and I stripped it down ready to rebuild, but ended up buying a second hand engine, so I put it back together loose it with the same rings and shells. It's in really good condition though the car it came out of only had 60k on it. It would need stripping and rebuilding properly.

And I've got the old engine out of my Westfield, which was running o.k. when it was removed.

Are you in Warrington as well? If so we could deliver for free as well.

Kirk

Had it running again last night on the original engine Kirk, it had only bent 2 valves. Swapping the head today for another, we'll see what happens.

Thanks for the offer

Because the cambelt breaking within the warrenty period would be a pretty rare thing and I expect Ford would rather sell more valves/heads/engines for the poorly maintained cars that do let go!!

It completed its first shakedown at Croft last weekend

Also passed its Rallycar logbook with flying colours and didn't get a single fault picked up on.

Let the fun begin

Oh and we even heard someone on the pitwall say....

"hey.. thats my old car"
