I assume the place you went to are still using the old gear with scales and little mirrors?
If so, find someone in your area who uses the laser alignment system, they just clip the units onto each wheel and away you go.

Also I would be surprised if the shaking is due to alignment. Mine done this when I first got it and I needed the wheels re-balanced.

Check out the Farmer Autocare place nearset you. The one near my folks has a laser wheel alignment system.

Give them a ring mate, see if they have one in the glasgow place.

I would check wheel balance first, especially on the back if you tend to pedal your car hard, make sure the tyres arent out of shape! This would give you severe vibration at speed. As for your steering wheel off centre this is probably unrelated to your vibration problem and could be worth having the tracking checked, Go for laser alignment this is the way forward with tracking. If you have poly bushes up front have it set for parallel.
