Default anyone travelled through Dubai Airport?

as title really , I have booked up to go to Australia in November.
I am travelling with Emirates Airlines and we stop in Dubai airport for 8 hours.
Has anyone been in there, if so what is it like , are there any good deals in the Duty free for digital cameras or any thing else that may be of interest.

If anybody wants to know , I paid £1990.70 for 2 adults 1 child & 1 infant through Thomas Cook online. Leave Glasgow to Brisbane . NO passing through heathrow
it seems to be the best fare that I could find as I was getting quotes for around £2500 for the 4 of us .

also do any of you guys recommend any car rental firms in Brisbane to carry 3 adults and 2 kids in child seats?

cheers folks

got relatives in Hervey Bay . It will let us go to Australia Zoo , travel to Fraser Island and maybe go toLady Elliot Island which is one of the southern Barrier reef islands.
I will be staying with them for 9 days then off to Sydney for the remainder to stay with my cousins

Are you aware that Emirates offer an overnight stay in a 5 star hotel in Dubai for flights to Australia - free of charge.

Well you are now.

And no I wasn't aware either - bloody travel agent did not mention it. Once the flight is booked there is no way to get the freebie - except pay the cancel charge and book again.

So now the rest of you know.

If you are in Dubai/Oman etc. go car shopping - buy any LHD Skyline/Evo TME and ship them back to Europe. You will make a mint on the European car market.

A Lot of Flight companies offer the stopoevers for free or next to nowt! But he has two kids and i reckon a one night stopover would be too much buggering about with 2 little'uns! It was a twat for me and lindsay in singapore! Would never do it again, 3 nights or straight through

after my HNC is done, Im soooooooooo getting sponsorship for over there...

just the weather.. you wake up, sun shining, birds walk past off for a morning surf.. relaxed attitudes... its great

then you come back to engerland.. its pitch black when you get up, its dark when you leave work plus the birds are moody, and the weather is shit

Im not bitter

3 weeks will be nice tho mate, especially as you've been before roll on November hey

for me , I done my 2 years at tech for apprentice electrician, company went bust and I never got another placement. that was 9 years ago. May have to take a peek at the skilled trades list and look into getting back into the electrical trade to fulfil my dream of moving out there.

like you say westy , the weather is the big attraction for moving.
Totally different way of living out there , I found it more a relaxing environment altogether

yeah mate, totally with you on that one...

its the way of life.. Even Dads mates are starting to move out there.. one was an electrician actually so it must be a wanted trade..!? He went to Perth.

at the end of the day.. if it doesn't work out.. you can always come back not quite as simple as that, but you know what I mean..

for me, Sydney done it... could have a beer whenever.. 24 hour bars Its not just that, its a combi of the peopl, the weather, the way of living out there.. Instaed of watching TV to pass a cold shitty night.. you can just go chill out on the rocks down Bondi instead..

Yet another person doesnt visit Melbourne

Not that I am complaining

The Immigration site for some light reading on Visas/Sponsorship. Very good and has all forms online.

http://www.immi.gov.au/allforms/books11.htm

I only fly Singapore Airlines but have had mates come through Dubai.

Up in Brisbane, its a shame as they get over 300 days of sun a year but its dark by 6-6.30pm. Down here in Melbourne it doesnt get dark until about 9pm although we dont get quite as much sun. It is much greener here like the UK due to a bit more rain.

Very good flight prices as well. Will be booking ours in the next few weeks for our annual holiday to the UK in May.

Yes the lifestyle is very nice and laid back and the people are fantastic. People actually chat to you at the checkout and ask about you as distinct from my old local safeway (morrisons I believe now) where I was lucky to get a thank you for paying them!

Very different way of life but I do miss lots of little things from the UK.

Enjoy your trip mate

The weather isnt what attracts me. Im not a sun loving person and dont like it too hot....but its the fact there is so much to do as the weather is nicer. Watersports and genrally just being able to throw an esky full of beer, a BBQ and some food onto the boat and moor up at a hidden beach somewhere for the day! Great lifestyle! Here you just go looking in shops for the day

ahh , the bbq's , relaxing out the back door in the warmth of the night, great thunderstorms.
My uncle has been out there 2 years now and my wee cousin is never indoors. the kids seem to be outside enjoying themselves instead of being inside all day .

I flew with Singapore Airlines in 2003 , excellent service from them , deffo reccomended. I chose to go with emirates as I dont have to fly down to London to get the long haul flights. shame I have an 8 hour wait in the airport though.

Seems that some company's will sponsor $10k for you moving out there. not sure what trades that is for or what companies do that , well worth looking into though.
