the bloke thats given me a quote has owned 4 mk4's before so noes them in and out, and he resparyed my mr2 in me sig, does a good job. if i get it done then ive paid £1900 for a decent rs. i could go and spend that on 1 and find that it needs exactly the same work. Still undecided

if you buy another car you have to think about the engine for a start

and if you get yours done you will KNOW its fine, buy another , you just dont know what your getting, theres loads more shitters than good ones

id keep it and be proud , do it the way you want, or take a risk and buy something else

although theres loads of mk4 escorts around why not keep the original shell restore it and have a really nice GENUINE s2 other wise u may aswell have got a xr3i turbo or something. Its the shell along with the engine that makes it worth the money in my opinion you have everthing you need and have a good price to restore it so keep it alive lol. sorry to babble on lol.

the holes in the seals were coverd up by the rs kit so if the mot tester couldnt see it he couldnt fail it, same with the arches, it looked ok with the kit on it tho

i didnt find all this untill i striped it tho

You are going pay big money for a minter so be proud of what you have and do a restore..Like everything be aware that there will be a costoverun and you will decide to do lots more when you start stripping the car..Like a good woman....You could put any amount of money into the car. I'd say do your budget and see how much you really have to spend and allow for cost overuns and new gadgets etc....Best of Luck, Rs Turbo's rule.....

of how bad it is mate, might not be as bad as you think, once you get it all stripped, anything can be restored just depends how much talent you have or how deep your pockets are
plus it will give you something to do its this nice winter weather we are having
cheers mark.

i agree with the boys on the restore , when i was looking for my rst i seen a loads of shitters , so stick with what uve got and also , ive uve have a good nosy round her now then youve all ready found all the faults with it

1100 quid for the work seem reasonable enough to me bud as i got quoted more for a full respray without the extent of repair ur dealing with bud

plus and i think everyone will agree with me that there somthing satisfying about pulling it apart and doing it right urself and if u can handle the mechanicals ur sorted

dont rush it replace whats essential first and toys later and ull have a sweet s2 bud

ive had and s 1 and a s 2 in the past year and a half , ive done in 7 engines and two turbos , every single member of may family has negged me to get rid of it and u know what !!:

I WOULD RATHER CUT OFF MY COCK AND SHOVE WASPS UP MY ARSE
THEN SELL MY RST !!!

THATS MY RANT OVER

PEACE

Default break, restore or sell

if u aint got any emotional ties den sell it. I would scrap it and keep anything decent from it, then go and buy a minter. If u hav any problems den u got spares or, if any1 needs something in the wanted section then u can get rid of some spares. We need people to scrap these rotten shells coz we dont need em floating around giving the rst a bad name. THE VALUE OF RST'S IS SLOWLY INCREASING AND I PRAY EVENTUALY THEY WILL BE WORTH GOOD MONEY AS ALOT OF US HAVE GENUINLY CHERISHED AND CARED FOR OUR CARS. The less junk available the more our cars are worth. Keep your cars priced as they are worth to you and slowly but surely we will be recieving good money for are cars, IF WE WE EVER SELL.

no emotional ties, but jus trying to weight up each option, i wud have spent £1900 in total, the battery tray is mint, no rust around filler cap or sunroof, its only 3 arches and 2 small holes at the rears of the seals, bout size of 50p, would this be classed as a rotten shell?. its being delocked proplerly for this price as well, both inner and outter arches rear, nsf wing, bonnet being sprayed, both sides of car, front bumper, everything except boot lid - a+b posts - roof. would i get the nice shinney paint work on another rs for a budget of £1900??

no mate you wouldent, you would get one that needed work ie the same as you have got , could be even worse than the one you have got, your shell is not rotten mate , just a little tatty round the edges.

oh andC2RST encouraging people to scrap rst shells is not a good idea on this site, we tend to like the old rst and fords in particular

Defanatley agree with moondust on this one !!!

its attitudes like that that really get to me ?

and while you saying crunch the shell have you read the post !

his shell aint fooked its mostly cosmetic , the lads got a good price on the repairs and when its done it will be just as solid as it was when new ( if its done rite lol )

your telling him to scrap it ??

and your sat there sayin we dnt need these on the road and shit

well thats bollocks , cos i for one wouldnt spend my hard earned cash on a rst that had been reshelled cos it aint a genuine rst simple as , now the lad may not as u say " cherish " his car just now but i gaurentee he will , when hes down and dirty in it and grafting and when its done and hes just taking that last coat of polish off her he will .

now u say u cherish yours ? sounds to me you look at your rst as what its going to be worth in ten years ?

if its about the benjamins for u i suggest u sell it now and put ur money in a I S A bud !

cos i wont be selling mine and thats for sure !

even if i get a cos , its going to my younger bruvva

moondust thats two rants now bud !!!

Rear arches are about £50 each tops. I had a pair fitted to my old S2 a few yrs back. Will take that rust out easily. Get a good bodyshop to do it and it will look original. Couldn't even tell mine had been done.

Don't scrap it and re-shell into non-RS. If they are the only probs with the shell, then you have a good one. I personally have nothing against the reshelled RS's (like doo's old one which was/is mint after he did it..and was on ebay last week !) but for what you have: bit of restoration is all it needs. Besides, you can't then genuinely call it an RST..only an RST replica/reshell: no matter how mint it is.

my rst was exactly the same when i got it, but worse £1300 later she is minty.

why splash on another rs? may as well sort this one and know the ins and outs of the car instead of buying another and finding £100's pounds needing doing
