Default Question about ebay bidding

Right guys, i know that ebay bid for you, and if someone bids more than your last bid and your max is higher then it bids for you again, but in what amounts?

I.e. Im selling a car on ebay. Buy it now is 5400, reserve is 5200(i know people cant see reserve) and my starting price i set was £1.

NOW, the bidding is currently 820. Could the persons max be higher or would this be their max bid....as it seems daft when i have a buy it now price of 5400 to put in a low bid like that?????? I mean its obvious the reserve is gonna be around the 5k mark with my BIN price

Or will ebay have done that? But if ebay only bids that, and the guys max price was 5300 then he would win it but wouldnt as ebay hasnt bid enough for him

usually buy stuff off ebay and dont sell hence my lack of knowledge on this bit!

Oh and the first bidder was 50 quid, and that got out bidded by the 820...so obviously the first guy only maxed in at 50 How on earth would that buy a 5.5k car?

Dont get IT or FOLK

The 50 quid bid might have been to add it to his bidding list... he might fire in at the end

Also I doubt the 820 bidder has matched the reserve, as it will prob say reserve not met next to price, if he had put in 5.3k, it would show it Im sure

The way i understand it is, his max bid could be higher than 820, but as he hasn't hit the reserve ebay have held back his max bid, i.e if he bids 5300 ebay drops down to 5200 with reserve met, others might be able to contribute to this

Just forget about it all until the last 1/2 hour of the auction.

It all means nothing until then

Why not ?

I do it all the time, as you will then get an automatic email when the auction is coming to a close, saves alot of messing looking for stuff you found earlier, or adding it to favourites etc.

When a bidder places a bid the ebay system will automatically bid the minimum amount needed to put that bidder as the highest bidder.

If the amount entered by the bidder is lower than your reserve then it will bid the full amount the bidder bidded.

So... yes his maximum bid was 820. However, if he was then to bid 5250 it would only bid him 5200 as this meets your reserve and makes him the highest bidder.

Am I right in thinking if person A bid £1000 and then person B bid £5000 the current winning bid would be £1050 say. If no other bids were placed on the auction would it end at £1050? But then if the reserve was lowered to £5000 before the auction ended would person B win the car at £5000?

Christ I think I've confused myself now!

What are you selling by the way Lee?

You seem to sell a car every other month!

If the reserve is £5200. When person B bids £5000 the current bid jumps to £5000 as this is the highest bid but has still not met the reserve.

Im not quite sure you can lower the reserve without cancelling all bids.

You dont have to bid to get an email, you just add it to your watch list

Are you sure that's how it works?

Nope that isn't how it works!

If the reserve is set higher than anyone has bid then the bids will only go up in incriments! So if someone has bid 5k this will only show when someone else has bid around 4.9k as it will automaticly outbid the 4.9
