Just started my car up for the first time in a week to test my fuel pimp wiring (it worked rah!!) but i noticed a rather odd rattle coming from the rocker which was intermitent - almost like a rattle but not the normal tappet noise. Any ideas as to what this could be? It seemed to settle down a bit when left idling but as soon as i reved it, the noise came back. Any ideas?

HAVERNT GOT A LOOSE ROCKER HAVE YA? TAKE COVER AND HAVE A LOOK MATE ONLY TAKE 5 MINS,NOT JUST A TAPET MINE DID SAME AFTER FULL REBUILD FOR A WHILE TILL IT PRIMED UP WITH OIL

 

Just had the rocker cover off (and split the gasket ) but cant find anything loose or out of place

 

Hard to say, is the noise like grinding, or squealing or what?

I take it you are familiar with the usual CVH "tapping" noise then (who isnt )

I've just had to put another cam in my car and mines making a wierd noise aswell, like a sort of squeaky grinding noise, but its quiet as can be as far as the tappets are concerned. Have you touched your cambelt at all?

 

I would say its more a grinding rattle, but not a tappet rattle. Its been started and stopped alot recent without moving anywhere.

 

Hmmmmm, sounds like mine. Check your cam belt isnt too tight, unlikely but worth a try? I'd take it easy for now definately until you get an idea of what it is. I'll let you know if i get any other ideas

Its going to SCC on Tuesday so if it doesn't sort itself by then I'll have it sorted then. Just strange that it hasn't moved an inch and suddenly this noise has appeared.
