Spadge from the pics I think the red one is the front and the black is the rear as I am sure the back does not have a pigtail lke the front ones!

would have said the long ones were the fronts,
and i thought you had progressive one on the front which the red ones are.

but the black ones look very very long, they look like fronts aswell

I would think that the fronts would be the thicker coils, not necessarily the longer ones.

So, I'd say that the black one is the front and the red one is the rear.

Well this is all very fookin confusing

When i started to sort my suspension out the front was too low so i removed the springs pictured below!

These are quite short and skiny and have the pig tail!

I then replaced them with the left hand one of the Koni's in the pic below that actually said front on it! These are Escos -30 springs!

When these were on the car sat higher than a standard 3 door at the front so i assumed this was because the sierra is lighter than the escos!

So today i removed the front ones and replaced them with standard height 4x4 saph ones which i assumed were the ones pictured here on the left?

And here is the result a fookin Dakar rally mobile

What am i doing wrong fellas

I know I could not fit 4 x 4 springs to my 3 dr before as it sat as yours do in the pics!! as for the springs the ones with the small pigtail on them are defo the fronts, I have AVO coilovers on my car same as yo sold a while ago, but I had to use shorter spings to clear the frontwheels as well, I went to 9" they only cost Ł22 new so you could always do that! or get the grinder out!! I think the escos springs are different as you said!

Regarding the first pic, I'm 99% certain that the one on the right is the front.

If they still have visible part numbers, you should see with HA or VA within the part number. VA is Front, HA is Rear!!

there is a difference in length between 2wd and 4x4 - could this be confusing you somewhere along the line?

The purply coloured springs that were originaly on the car are thinner than any of them and are the shortest of all with the Koni Escos springs! The koni's are much thicker steel though hence them not compresing as much If i were to put the red saph ones on which are much longer than the original and a bit thicker i just know its going to be as high as it is now

Agreed!! definitely!

The spring stiffness results from a combination of wire thickness and number of turns -

If 2 springs are wound from the same thickness wire, the one with less turns on will be stiffer

If 2 springs have the same number of turns but different wire size, the thinner one will be softer

Assumption here is that the coil diameters will be the same, considering they are for the same fitment..

Fitted height is a different issue, and not only related to stiffness, obviously a longer spring of the same stiffness will give more ride height, but a longer, softer spring may not, just depends how much softer..

Stu i thought that until i looked at what was written on the springs and the one on the left has rear written on it and vice versa I can only assume they were marked-up wrong by Koni
Anyway its all sorted now so cheers for all your help

And the nos isn't far behind
