hi peeps just wondering if having a bit of oil in the intercooler (from the KE system) is a good or a bad thing? i heard oil will cause a bit of a boost drop while on the other side i have heard its a good thing...

what are your views?

i beleive its the norm, dont be worried

im sure its normal to however will the cooler run more efficiently if the oil wasnt there?

So long as its not masses of oil, it should be fine, I dont think theres not an RST without oil in the charge carrier/intercooler

 

i thought having an aftermarket oil breather system sorts this?

unless the breather return to metering head is blocked then even some aftermarket breathers will still cause this....

its either that or turbo oil seals - but that would be quite noticeable!

 

SAME THING HAPPENED TO MINE ,DUMP VALVE WAS BLOWING OIL OVER ENGINE EVERYTIME IT DUMPED,FITTED BAILEY BREATHER KIT AND PROBLEM WAS SORTED.

 

ALL turbos seem to let a tiny bit of oil in the pipes, probably due to the nature of the oil seals, dont worry about it unless your doing your oil changs from the boost pipes lol

 

no probs peeps just was curious as im going to block off the part of the breather that goes to the metering unit and have the oil caught into a tank...when i do it ill clean everything out, all the pipes, tb, intercooler and see how it goes...

only doing the cheap mods till the zetec goes in lol

lot of the time people dont change the small round breather top of the rocker cover thats y the oil starts to fill up

 

Little tip: Tar and glue remover for cleaning the pipes, works like magic!!

This is also true, the oil control filter, serviceable part but most people dont know this. If your fitting a catch tank u can remove it anyway, catch tank will be far better

 

i was told last month that this is a pointer to a worn bottom end when i had the car set up on my local rollers was also advised not to chip the car until i get it rebuilt i really want to chip it for more power but i dont want want to ruin it.

i have had a second opinion and have been told it would be fine to chip there is very little residue in the charge carrier.

withamxr they are kind of right.....heavy breathing can be due to worn rings hence an uprated breather can actually disguise a more serious issue.

As mentioned if the rings are excessively worn then you will get oil in the breather system, from my knowledge however it is "noticeabley" heavier breathing with f*ckloads of oil coming through, realistically u shouldnt get any oil in there, perhaps a little.
