Default Connecting phone and GPS Reciever? NOW SORTED

Sorry guys, but either I'm being thick (likely) or it won't work

Do I have to connect to the device before I plan a route? (if so, how?????)

Because if I plan a route it says waiting for valid GPS signal, and never gets it, just keeps searching

Any ideas?

you need to pair the phone (or whatever it is) and gps together first.. turn on bluetooth and do a search it should pick up the gps receiver..

also are you using the gps outside it wont work inside.. you need line of sight of the satalites

my gps receiver gets a signal inside at work

and yes you put the receiver on your dash or back window etc, anywhere where it can see the sky

also in tom tom 5 there something called advanced planning where you can pre do a route without a signal but it takes it as given that you are at your pre designated home address when it does it

hope this helps

matt

how long did you give it, some GPS units take several minutes to cold start and some wont register until you are moving.

cold start means it doesnt know where it is.

if you park it up with it running, turn it off, then come back, its far quicker as i think it stores in solid state its last location.

Fil, just the man I was hoping would reply

On my 6630, I go to the bluetooth menu, then select paired devices. I have a few already like my PC ect. I go to add new device, select the GPS reciever, enter the passcode (says in the box), and then allow it (authenticicate it) to do things with the phone without asking me.

I done all this thismorning, and it still is listed in my paired devices!!

Taken from the specification:

Acquisition time:
Reacquisition: < 0.1 seconds.
Warm start: < 38 seconds.
Cold start: < 42 seconds.
Hot start: < 8seconds.
