Default MOT and engine conversions

I would like some clarification on this subject.

If I were to buy a Escort say a 1.4LX and then have an engine swap done to say a 2L, what would happen MOT time?

Due to the new way a MOT is carried out ie computerised etc would they not have to type in that the emmisions test was for a 2L engine and it would still be registered as a 1.4 on the V5 would I run into problems come MOT time?
I know it would be breaking the law by not declaring it on the V5 but thats not the question

Thanx
(Hope this makes sense)

Handy I just had an MOT on a 2L 16 V Corsa eh?

First of all, if the engine isn't changed on the V5 the garage may refuse to do the MOT at all. The garage I went to would have but I produced the V5. It is something to do with those new computerised MOT's.

Also, the emissions test is based on the engine, not the car, so the tester will ask what car & year your engine is from to determine what emissions you need to pass.

It goes on the engine OR the car - whichever is older. If either was first used (means registered) pre August 1992 then you should have a basic test.

You could have a 2005 focus with a 1991 YB and it should have the basic emissions test.
