Default Fiesta 1.25 Zetec - what engine to swap in?

Hi there,

Im asking on behalf of a freind who doesnt have access to the internet, He has an X plate Fiesta 1.25 Zetec and although hes spent a fortune putting a body kit, wheel arches and ICE in it, hes now fed up with the lack of power and wants something a bit more powerful.

Can anyone recommend an engine that wont cost a bomb and would be easy enough to fit? we are all competant-ish home mechanics just I dont know the first thing about Fords. Im a Vauxhall man you see, majorly into Mk2 Astra's and trackdays - but no ones perfect eh!

My initial reaction was to whack a 2.0i 16v zetec lump in there, then he mentioned an Escort RS Turbo engine he knows off. Hes looking for something that makes around 140bhp plus as a guide, we're open to any suggestion - as long as its not too much work on the wiring front.

He has another option though, a N plate Fiesta 1.1 is lying on his farm with a good bodyshell. Ive suggested he put the RS turbo engine into this and uprate the nessecarys to cope with the power, but leave it standard on the outside. Its carbed at the moment - how much effort would it be to put the RS Turbo engine into this?

Thanks in advance!
Brett

which engine you can put in the 1.25 zetec depends on which way round the engine is. which side (front or back) is the inlet and the exhaust?

if the exhaust is at the back you want a 1.7 puma engine or racing puma engine. if the inlet is at the back and the exhaust at the front you want the 2ltr zetec mondeo engine. the 2ltr is quicker than the rs turbo though and much more potential

the easyist 1 is the puma 1.7 engine. the loom and ecu is just a straight swap, i just unplugs and the puma loom just mates up to the rest of the fiesta loom. and u can use the 1.25 zetec box on it

the 2ltr focus engine will be alot more hasle, will be diferent mounts, engine is the other way round and think the box is diff to. not worth the hasle for 5bhp.

i put the puma engine in my zs and is got 135bhp with just a 421 manifold and system. defo the eayist option

great cheers lads - I'll pass this onto him. Are there many tuning options for the Puma lump? What do the Puma 1.7 16v lumps fetch for a fair mileage example, say 50-80k miles? is the 1.25 gearbox up to the job?

I can see of him going for this.

try www.pumaspeed.com www.pumabuild.com for tuning info

i got my engine loom and ecu for Ł1400. that was a 30k engine
the 1.25 box will go on. it will be rapid bottom end with that box on it. well up till around 110 or so as the 1.25 box aint got long ratios.
