Been trying to fit some Bilstein coilovers to my car this morning and they fit ok but the fkin wheels wont
They are single venue type Bilsteins if that makes any difference? and the wheels are hitting the springs when i put the wheel back on! The wheels are et38 and are 8j i suppose that could be the problem
I have numerous spacers here and i would need at least 10mm either side but more like 13mm to get them to fit
That would also mean changing to longer wheel studs which i also have but very little of the wheel centre would be locating on the hub centre
Are single venue coilovers different to your average one in the spring length or am i going to get this problem with any type of coilover with these wheels/tyres?????
Cheers Spadge...

Indeed, you've answered your own Q.
ET38 and 8 inch rims dont fit with coil overs when using springs of around 10 inch or longer.
I'm now running 7.5 inch front rims and ET30 in order to get the clearance.

No worries Ryan if i get anymore grief from this car i'm breaking it
Karl you mentioned 10" springs? I have just checked and these are just over 12" long
If they were 10" i reckon they might just fit

Well spadge you'll find that once you go shorter than 10 inch the spring/seat is higher than the rim edge so you can get the clearance but a short spring does not have the suspension travel range so a set of helper springs will be in order. Suck it and see I guess.

Lol i wouldn't go as far as nothing mate! It certainly owes me more than its worth in bits but i have spent a lot of time on it and put a lot of effort into making it as it is now and thats the biggest reason its still in one piece now

It is true that some of the parts i have replaced did come reasonably cheap mate
However don't forget when i bought it a year and a half ago for 10k it was a mechanical shed!
I have replaced virtually everything on it with the exception of the metal body panels, rear bumper and beam and the front brakes and thats it

Nope i give up
Put some longer studs in so i could use spacers and i would need a good 10mm which means the wheel won't locate properly on the hub
So i've given-up and the coilovers are off again
Anyone got a new set of 4x4 front springs
Spadge ,
Sadly there is more to this conversion than just "slapping " on a pair of rear coilovers . Single venue is just the name for a Rally carried out a "Single Venue" ( like an airfield or race track ).
Bilsteins fall into 2 categories ( mainly ) Tarmac ( short Bodies ) and gravel ( longer bodies ) .
Im surprised your having problems , my car has 8 x 17" Wheels ET 40 and they dont rub on the 12" spring ! Maybe , the top hats that space the bottom are round the wrong way , the longer one goes on the inside of the car, sometimes you will have to mess about with lower mounting point to get them to fit easily as well .

Spadge,
I made these in the lathe once. Spacer plates which give you back your centre hub.

Your welcome to borrow them for a bit until you get sorted
Emphasised borrow - as I don't want to see them on Ebay

there's no piont fitting smaller spring on your billy coilovers.......because you will lose travel on the rebound and they won't work properly ....
the best thing to do is fit a 2mm spacer and fit longer studs keep a minium of 12" spring on your shocks
job done

Marco I will see if I have any ally left in stock
I do have 2 x 10mm one's already I'm sure.
I used to have to carry them in the car when I had Koni's on the back, as they would be banana'd after only about 2 stages

Thanks for all your offers of help guys but the billys are in the bin
Rus i don't do borrowing mate if they go on my car they stay there till i bust it up
thanks for the offer though
Marco thanks mate but i would need 13mm in spacers or Rus's jobbies and that can't be good for the rest of the steering gear imo
I'm reverting to plan A and will stick with the Konis and just get the correct springs to suit
at least until i change my mind again tommorow that is

Cheers for the offer Marco but they are off and staying off mate!
My wheels as i said above are et38 but even with a 10mm spacer the side wall of the tyre and the rim of thewheel is touching the spring! The springs are approx 12.5 inches long so i would guess these are gravel type Bilsteins judging by what Tony said earlier!! I am not prepared at this stage to use spacer of 10mm or over as i don't like them as they lead to other problems so unless i change my wheels i'm fucked really
Cheers again though fella
