Default New Runabout - Opinions

I got a nice little bonus from work over christmas so I'm thinking about buying myself a new rounabout.

I want to spend up to £1.5k but ideally around the £1k mark, I want something small, fairly nippy, Reliable, fairly cheap to run AND fantastic handling [not much to ask then ]

My mate is trying to convince me to buy a Corrado

What are your opinions on the following motors:

Pegeout 106 Rallye [Later shape]

Renault Clio 1.8 16v

http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www...ch_full=SEARCH

Renault Clio Williams

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/RENAULT-CLIO-W...QQcmdZViewItem

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1995-M-RENAULT...QQcmdZViewItem

106 Gti

Saxo VTS

What are the above cars like reliability wise? What should I look out for?

Any other suggestions?

A Clio Williams for £1500 is going to a be a dog though surely?

I doubt you'd get a decent Corrado for that money either.

Clio Williams for £1500??!?!??! Really???

I think you may get one thats been to the moon and had several accidents on the way there... but anything reliable and nice handling like you want will be much more... won't it??

I deffo don't want a Corrado!!!!

I think you maybe surprised what £1.5k can actually by you! It is a runaround so I'm not after a minter!! It can have scratches, dents surface rust etc...probably have 100k miles as well.

Phase 1 106 Rallye:

Top one lokks quite good.

bargain for that money ! There normaly around the 2k mark.
I would always go for the phase 1 as thats the homoligation road going version. Trust me it will pull the pants down most things on the road plus it still pulls on the motorway, i thought it would have run out of puff from 4th but the fucker just keeps pulling to the redline in 5th in no time! Amazing little cars

For the £1500 buy the 1.8 16v Clio, you'll get a much better example against a similar priced Williams. I owned one of these and I still miss her every day. I thought that would fade when I got the Bravo HGT but it hasn't If you go for one, check the gearbox, make sure you get a decent test drive as mine started jumping out of 5th on the motorway and the clutch can be suspect too. ANy noises from the gearbox or clutch, walk away. Maintenance on the engine and box is coctly. Many jobs are engine out affairs.

You should get a great valver for that money. Alternatively, what's wrong with a Corrado? great cars

Well what about the two Williams I've posted above? I think they look very good for the money? Especially the top one?

What would one be like with 100k miles reliability wise?

Corrados are just not my thing.

I thinking I'm swinging towards the Pug to be honest.

306 TD all day long, great fuel economy, fairly nippy, handling is class, reliable, extremely.....I've had mine since August and it's not missed a beat, lovely to drive and comfy you could probably get a facelift model for £1500 ish, maybe....don't let milage put you off either!

the 1st Clio only ever had 2 warranty claims made on it and the 2nd one had 3... once out of warranty god knows how they have been

But would be my choice.... Not many of them about, Pull like a train and very good spec for your money

I had an 1.8 16V clio, engine runs to hot and melts the lacquer on the bonnet! apparently this is a common fault, apart from that though it was a cracking first car!

one of the reply questions says: "The car is advertised in the autotrader we are looking for a figure above £1500"

Yes, I know the bids have gone over this, so you did the right thing, does look like a good car though.

Don't really rate phase 1 pug 106 rallye's...

I basically pushed one along the road in my 16 year old, 125k mile, 1.6 8v BMW and its no fast car.

No doubt the rallye would hammer me on the twisties, but straight line speed, and accelaration, i dont rate them

Clio williams if u can find one for the money, if not, i reccomend a civic vti or similar...
