It's an advert for the SUV/truck (Nissan I seem to remember) as it keeps on working "even after being hit by a meteor" and stuff

A meteorite that size would leave a massive circular crater (unless the angle of impact was less than 13 degress when it would leave a massive a-symetric creater). There is no ridge or ejecta curtain. It would also quite literally melt the sand and would be generally pretty catastrophic for anyone standing that close.
