is there any quick and easy ways to tell what ratio a diff is?
in reference to a 4x4 front diff, with sump plate removed. would just be handy to know exactly what it is!
Cheers

something like count number of teeth on the crown wheel and devide it by the number of teeth on the front pinion
i sure thats it
check the edge ov the crown wheel on the early mk1 mk2 diff it was writen on crown wheel

If you can see the Crown wheel (big gear) and Pinnion (small gear),
Count the teeth on both gears:
Ratio = Crown wheel divided by pinnion.
Other wise jack up one side, so the other wheel is still on the ground, (if its L.S.D jack up both sides) turn road wheel 1 rev and count how many revs and part revs prop shaft turns = Ratio .
