cheers mate, wheres the idle speed control valve to since i can't find one LOL, thiers the ignition module (on top of dizzy) a multiplug with 3 wires and half way along the loom from the multiplug 2 wire's 1 for the anti-dieseling valve and 1 going somthing (like a sensore single wire round connector) half way down the block around the back (about 9inchs down from the manifold). fuel pump seems pretty new to look at it, any way to check this fuel pump it seems good underload just when idiling, funny why it itermitent seems more electrical. the cars a mk3 fiesta 1.6sport. cheers for the reply mate. any more help would be idle.
sounds like idle valve as fizzyturbo said. couple of places it could be either on the airbox or on the inlet itself. Looks like a tube with possibly a blue sticker on it indicating the part number.

does it have one since its a carb TLD, nothing on the air box, thier is somthing coming of the intake manifold with 3 vacuum line's coming from it but thats about it. are u sure they used it on the xr2 lean burn engine the dizzy has a black cap, with the ignition module on top of the dizzy. Cheers for the info.

yep, done that. try fidderling with the autochoke, cleaned plugs, try adjusting mixture and idle screw, no succes like i said sometime it idles fine and then it suddenly won't idle and dies, and sometime it idles really shit rising and droping a few hundred revs constanly for a few mins untill u rev it and then it might idle fine for a while or might not idle at all, and ones guess, could it be the ignition module on its way out, since the old one packed up now and i got a dizzy of a mk4 escort which i got from the scrappy, think when i get paid im going to invest in a recon dizzy, coil and new set of plug leads. u got any more info or ideas cheers mate.
if i was you mate i would get the CO checked out on a machine i mean not just some yeeeeeehaaaaaaaaaa job of trying to turn the fuel mixture screw done this myself once and ending up running the engine too rich

u can't reall run the engine too rich mate since the mixture screw on the TLD carb, only changes the mixture for the idle below say 1500rpm so u can't really fook it up u just adjust it so the engine idles best and doesn't hesitate when accerating.
cheers for the help anyway i'll keep u informed if it gets worse only have to do about 10mins of driving a day at the moment but will need it for christmas shoping and i don't get paid untill the 16th, so will have to try and get a recon dizzy and stuff quick, probally looking at ebay unless anyone knows how much they are from garages, parts shops for a recon one. Cheers again

hi mate better to make sure it is the dizzy as you could be spending money for no reason if its not that why not take it to a local mechanic to have a look at as the old carb engines are not that complicated to fix

i can do the general testing, i worked as a agricultural mechanic for 2 years and race motocross so always re-building engines. it ain't no vacuum leaks, i recon it is the dizzy or coil, not that much to buy and i can take the old dizzy back to the scrappy and get my £20 back (hopefully) but intermitent faults like this are hard to spot u can't test it propally if it works fine one min and not the other, i'll test the dizzy tommorrow, and coil resistance readings, but can't really test the ignition module. u can get a recon dizzy off ebay for £15 or a new one for £45 coil should be like £10 of somthing, can't really see it being a problem with the carb since i've checked it and it runs ok at higher throttle if one of the jets where blocked it wouldn't be so intermitent, same about vacuum leaks wouldn't be so intermitent, its funny it'll idle fine untill u do somthing like rev it and then it goes all shit and if u keep on reving it sometimes it fix's it, really funny sounds like the dizzy the magnetic pickup sensor could be a bit buggered or somthing. i'll fix it eventury, car seems to bog down a bit aswell recentally and miss-fire its had a 35thou skim so it could be that the coils not putting out enough power and the extra Compression is blowing out the spark on low throttle / high load situations. so probally best to have a new dizzy and coil anyway. along with some leads, put new spark plugs in it about 3 months back, could do with a cambelt and oil change willl im there aswell. Cheers again bud
