Whats the best set up for music in a erst, 6x9s on the parcel shelf? with speakers in the footwells? subs? any1 got a good set up?

 

Don't put 6x9s in if your goin to put a sub in they will cancel each other out. To be honest i tend to keep it simple for the best quality my setup is alpine 12 type r sub ,6" pioneer 3ways in the front kick panels , Alpine v12 amp running the lot and an alpine head unit sound quality is spot on and if you want it lots of boom is possible. You could put loads of gear in there but its more weight and 10 shit speakers are no match for 3 good quality ones.

 

Personally I would go with a good quality 6.5" component setup in the front run off an amp along with a sub in the boot. If you must have back speakers run them off the headunit as they are only really there to create a bit of rear fill.

Think of it as going to a concert. You stand facing the stage not with your back to it. so you want the quality sounds coming from in front of you.

Why people put tweeters in the back or mount them in daft places (hi up the A or B pillars) is a mystery to me

All I have in the Escort now is a set of 6.5" JBL's up front run off the headunit as the car is stripped and I'm not too fussed by sounds anymore

 

did your speakers go straight in in the footwells? 6-6.5's?

 

Had to cut the speaker cowling and mount the speaker to this after reinforcing it a bit with some fibreglass.



The tweeters aren't wired up. I slipped with ascrew driver and buggered the plastic and had these kicking about so used them to cover up my cock up

Mine didn't have it as the previous owner whipped his speakers out before I picked the car up.

 

soz ment cage, the old speaker pods. thinking of putting speakers in the footwells aswell as putting some where the centre console is (think where the tapes go)

good idea or not? then mayb a small sub in the boot?do you think that would match well all around?

Yes mate. Just cut the hole in the cowel and then mixed up the fibreglass and slapped it on the back. Leave to dry and job jobbed. Probably don't need to but I had the stuff there and thought sod it.

As said mate just a good quality set of amped component up front with a sub. Can't go far wrong with a decent 12" in a box though

This was the setup I had in my A4 until getting the FRST.

Oh 1 last thing, is it better to over amp the speakers or under amp them???

 

Over amp them and reduce the gain is far better than having a smaller amp running flat out.

 

i had some 6", 4" and 1" speakers in the front of mine and a single 15" sub in the spare wheel hole


all speakers were JL and powered by Alpine amps


sounded awesome


all speakers were directed at the driver and set up with alpine eq so staging was perfect

spot on mines set up like that sounds a treat

nothing sounds worse then a amp strugglin to keep up !!

 

i got a 4 channel 500watt amp, i know if run 4 speakers from it i will get 125watt at each speaker, if i jus run 2 speakers will i get 250watt per speaker???

 

should do depends if ur running them bridged etc

not sure what bridgeing does but sounds better

 

Bridging alters what ohms that the amp puts out..

As for speaker set up i have got 2 12's in the boot 2 6x9's in the self and components in the foot wells and sounds ace...

 

As i've kept my car standard, i've not got much in the way of ICE, but the 80w speakers in the front, and 120w speakers in the back still do the job combined with my Pioneer head unit lol
