my motherbored has 6 slots for ram
they are in 2 banks on the mb
the first slot in each bank is orange the other 2 purple
looking at it from the top
if the orange slots are filled with 512 cosier ram it works ok
if i fill the other slots with new 512 coiser ram the moniter
wont get a signal ...ie no picture ...
is there a option in the bios i have to enable to ???????
POWER UP THE PURPLE slots .. as they dont seem to work ...
at my wits end ..really pissing me off now ...
and the tech who normally fixes it ..CARNT MEET HIM TILL FRIDAY
soo ive got £150 of ram sitting here doing nothing
real tears
ANY IDEAS

Might be a dual channel board, meaning you run equal pairs in the first slot of each bank. the memory then runs at faster speed than if in one bank only. Has to be the same memory ie pairs of 256 or 512 etc.

yes its dual channel i think
but all ram sticks are 512 coiser
all the same ..6 OF THEM
but the orange slots wont work for some reason
i just get no signal to the screen it goes on standby...no picture
when the orange slots have the new ram inserted
so i carnt even check bios EVEN IF I DID KNOW WHAT I WAS DOING LOL

Does it work if you just put them in the orange slots???
Because they are different colours they are bound to be different type of slots I'd imagine - you'll prob find its an either/or jobbie!!!
What motherboard is it???

Board: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. 8KNXP 1.x
Bus Clock: 200 megahertz
BIOS: Award Software International, Inc. FE 12/25/2003
mem modules
1024 Megabytes Installed Memory
Slot 'A0' has 512 MB
Slot 'A1' is Empty
Slot 'A2' has 512 MB
Slot 'A3' is Empty
so 2 slots LOST

Very interesting first post and could have solved one of my problems.
I get a "no signal" message sometimes after a rebuild but attributed it to a blown motherboard slot or graphics card as the I could get things working on different boards. I dont throw them out so will go and test them now.
As for your problem, no idea.

Right,
If you drop a 512 chip into all 3 orange slots does it boot up ?
Then, if you drop a 512 chip into each of the 3 purple slot's does it boot up ?
I have a suspicion, that you can only use one set of slots, unless, there's an option in the bios to enable all 6 to work well. What's the ram limit on the board ? It may also need a BIOS update. And be particular to what manufacturer's ram you put in each of the channels
