Default Transfer video from handycam to computer?

Thought I would give this a try.

Ive got a camera that got video out, firewire video out and then a USB-port that aint marked.

The camera came with USB-cable but I dont really know how to get that working. When I hook it up to the computer with USB nothing happens, not even a beep from the computer that you usally get when attaching a USB-device.

So what should I do other that RTFM that I left at the sports club office.

Should I be able to transfer video to the computer with USB or do I need Firewire? Ive got Windows Movie Maker running but it cant find a videosignal to record from.

When you switch the camera on with it connected ? Does Windows Xp not pop up a notification to say it's found the camera ? Go into control panel and then scanners / camera's and see if it's there. If not, you may need to install some software for it. And i'm sure you'll be able to get the manual off the manufacturers website

Even if you get the USB working the video quality is poor. The maximum res you can get is like an average internet quality in a small window.

I gave up on USB and brought a F/W card with cable for £8.90 from these people www.refreshcomputers.com works like a dream!!

Forgot to say that a f/w connection also allows you to control the camera from the Pc which is very handy

Found out that the USB is for pics only so I will get a firewire cable tomorrow. Hopefully that will solve it.

Works fine now using firewire.

Takes a long while though, first wait to transfer to computer and then to save it/convert it.
