Default IE 6 install problem

Had to reinstall Me recently, but cannot install IE6.

I click the install, it starts, but doesn't finish & a box comes up saying that
"setup was unable to install all of the products".

It gets to around 2%, then jumps to around 85% , completes the rest very quickly, then the box comes up.

When you click 'help' it says this: It appears you have the correct setup files, but the installation failed. Try closing down all other programs and try running Setup again. If that still does not work, contact Microsoft Product Support Services for additional help.

I've tried this from d/l from M/S from fresh and I also found a disk I had from when I bought the comp which also has it. Tried it from there & still not working.

Is there anyway of removing IE altogether, then using the disk version to load it, rather than upgrade IE 5.5 ? I looked in add/remove progs, but only the Q831167 Service Pack update was in there, which I removed.

Thanx again for any help....

Tried that, thanx. Just install ME over the top again to see if it would clear the problem. Re-tried to install IE6, but same result as before.

Format it and do a fresh complete install. Personally, I would bin ME all together as it's utter wank

You can remove IE completely using IEradicator found at the following URL
http://www.litepc.com/download.html

the problem you are encountering is related to the setup files which by large are the same for IE5 and IE6 basically due to the fact that IE5 is so buggy they released a new one with all the bug fixes rather than have new and improved features.... basically Win9x and Me thinks its the same application
Uninstalling IE5 and then Installing IE6 apparently resolves this problem in most cases.. Although If you decide to do this I would install mozilla firefox first incase you encounter problems and am left without a working internet explorer.

All at your own risk... remember that and you require the full Internet Explorer Application not just the upgrade

Personally speaking I Kill Internet Explorer and use Firefox..... big fan of XPlite and 98lite which strips all the rubbish out of Win2k/XP and 95/98/Me respectively... fantastic pieces of software
