ntl would like to warn customers about the following new computer virus in circulation called Sober.AH.

This virus transmits itself as a email purporting to be from the FBI or the CIA, warning you that you have been tracked visiting illegal websites, and directing you to open an attachment, which can then infect your PC.

The virus email sometimes has the subject "You visit illegal websites", and appears to be from an address like mailfbi.gov or adminfbi.gov.

Other variations contain fake email error message or notices to change your password, or claim to contain a video of Paris Hilton.

What can happen?
These viruses can cause serious damage to your files and your PC.
The infection caused in your PC could send out more copies of the virus to friends and contacts in your email address book.
The virus can also open a dialog box or pop-up window on your PC saying that no viruses have been found, when it is actually leaving your PC open to future threats.
What you should do?
We automatically block viruses from entering your ntlworld mailbox, but you should still exercise caution when opening emails from people you don't know, especially if they contain attachments.

If you have already installed ntl Netguard, you should make sure your virus files are up to date. To check this, open Netguard, click on Anti-virus, and then click on Preferences, then simply click on the Update button to protect your PC from these new viruses.
In order to make Netguard as effective as possible, we recommend that, under Update, the Frequency is set to Automatic, so that you get all new updates automatically.
If you have not got Netguard, then ntl cable customers can visit www.ntlworld.com/netguard to download and install anti-virus free of charge.
If you use other anti-virus programs, you should make sure that these are up to date. Please note that we do not provide technical support on third party anti-virus software.

 

yeah been getting those emails for weeks, just delete like 90% of the crap that gets in your inbox

 

snap, just delete them, you can guarentee someone will open one though

 

Had a couple of thousand of these this week and last. Fortunately all stopped on the mail server. Blocked the domains in the end.
