Default Problem with internet at home :(

Hi,

On my Pc at home I tried to access the internet this morning! All of the lights were on the modem and the router so I am not sure what it could be....

Basicly I cannot see any websites or get onto MSN! In firefox it said the connection was refused and MSN is saying something about the hosts file but when I checked it all it said was the localhost which I think is standard?

I can manage to ping things by IP and domain name in the command prompt so there is a connection there.

I have also tried a system restore to when it def was working

Any help appreciated

Thanks

Nick

sounds like a dns problem with your isp

if you can ping then your connection is fine

Who you with in the way of ISP?

Sounds very much like you've hit your bandwidth cap. I'm with NTL, and if i hit the cap, they stop the internet untill i call them and agree a slower speed for the rest of the month.

Call them up

Thanks Ranj, I suspect it is DNS too! Only thing is that I can ping say www.google.co.uk aswell as the IP so it is resolving the domain in the command prompt!

Tried the router off and the modem off!

I do have a connection because I can ping so I haven't been cut off!

According to the NTL site there is an outage in some CV postcodes but not mine but I think it might have affected it?

If it is still down when I get home then I will give them a call later

Ah right, i see.

Anyway, give them a calland ask if you hit the cap. YOu can still ping IP's but when the cap is reached it won't allow downloading of pages.
