Just put my car into 2nd gear while doing 90mph UPDATE 29/11
Need a bit of advice/help please ....Just been out giving my series 2 giving it a good
spanking got up to about 90mph in third went into what i thought was
forth but it was second
The engine screamed and bounced off the limiter i managed to knock it into nuetral as quick as i could but the damage was done.
The problems are:
1 it doesnt idle
2 miss fires
3 doesnt want to start.
When i managed to get it running again it seems ok above 50ish mph
It still pulls ok as well and it doesnt seem to smoke at all.
Can anyone suggest things i can check or do to try and figure out what the problem is.
Thanks for reading and any help will be much appriciated.
Matt.
****UPDATE 29/11/05****
Whipped the head off yesterday and here are the pics below, not sure
how good they are going to come out because they were taken on a camera phone, but all 8 valves have hit the pistons
1 and 3 seemed to be the worst,so i guess time now to strip the head down and see how many(probably all)of the valves will need replacing.

I would check Hoses and stuff, but thats unlikely.

They are steel h section conrods would they still bend?

I didn't know you had Steel Rods. IMO you would be more likely to bend the Crank than bend one of those Rods.
As others have said, do a Compression Test before making any further judements.

would be more likely to be bent or a valve?
If i was to do a compression test and the compression was the
same would that rule out a bent conrod?[/quote]
I know the compression WONT be the same due to @ least a couple of valves being bent m8 sorry to say
doubt you've bent a rod tbh if that's helps with the blow!
either way the heads got to come off IMO and you should be able to access the other damage to pistons etc!

Chewy, don't panic about the Crank!! I really don't think it will be that!!!
Likely to be a Valve though.
High revs from a Downshift would normally either stick a Rod out of the Block (or bend it) or the lifters would jack up and hold valve/valves open and in turn they would hit the pistons and bend.
If it doesn't run properly, then its likely its a valve.

My mate took off an ignition lead one at a time while i cranked it over
when one and three were off it didnt seem to make a differnce to how the engine fired, but when two and four were off it made it worse when trying to start it.

You have been very helpful
That makes sense.
Valves!!
Head off time I'm afraid!
Look at it this way, you could have been looking at a Conrod sticking out of the block and that is nasty, so take it on the chin and put it down to experience!! Good luck.

Thanks to all that helped, hopefully have an update tomorrow.
DaveEscCos did exactly the same in his RST one night, turned out he bent a couple of valves.
Best do a compression test and see whats what and if any readings are a bit low time to whip the head off and check to see if any valves bent.
Goodluck with it

A mate of mine did the same in his crx vtec, flat out of the limiter in 3rd then rammed it into 2nd. Needless to say it snapped a few valves mash the rest into the head and smashed a hole in every piston, it also cracked every bore. It was funny as fook when we poped the head off it was a molten mash of metal
A friend of mine did exactly the same thing not too long ago in an RST. As all the above said - turned out to be a few bent valves and indeed some pockets in the pistons
Wasn't the most expensive thing in the world to fix but his hasn't ran right since, although i would suspect it has more to do with whoever times the cam in again. So whatever you get done - do it right
Good Luck!!

Some horror stories there but fingers crossed it just a valve or 2.

Chewy, sorry to hear about this..........I know bloke you did the same thing in a Honda Integra (DC2 / V-tec).......Bent ALL the valves and it cost a fortune to repair
For your car a compression test is the first thing to do.
