Default S2 RS TURBO PROBLEM...

My Series 2 has started to over-rev itself when you put your foot down without going any great speed (Will rev to 3500rpm in 3rd, 4th gear at 20mph! )

When you put your foot down it revs out like you're riding the clutch, but doen't have any grunt!

First started last Saturday when I was driving down a short carriageway near home & suddenly revved like I'd selected 1st gear when I had infact changed into 3rd, then I couldn't get it in any gear & had to coast to a layby & after a couple of minutes it released & I could select all gears again!

Could it be the clutch slipping after performing an accidental burnout in the rain on Friday afternoon in the rain?

Any ideas?

u can get a new std clutch for under 50 quid mate so not too bad. Ur rear crankshaft oil seal could be leaking too, which would make it slip.

to see if its oil on the plate try putting the car in fifth and taking off at high revs for a while(with the handbrake on), when you smell clutch burning then it should be okay for a few miles as any oil on plate will have been burnt off hence should drive okay.

Could be the crankshaft oil seal then as it does smell like its burning & there has been the odd drop of oil on the garage floor the past few days!

Well p*ssed off as it's a brand new Ford engine which has only done 26000 miles!

if the oils seeping between bell housing and block it stands a good chance!

Think I'll give up on turbo cars & go back to Old Skool Escorts, they're less expensive to repair!

Get on ya back, under the front, put ya fingers in between the gearbox and the gearbox cradle. If that is full of gunge/oil then it will be seal.

Ford don't charge a mint!!

If your local Ford dealer is a 'Rapid-Fit' they will do a clutch change including parts and labout for around £150, which is good value imo

Also changing the crank seal at this stage won't cost much more (maybe another hour labour) plus parts, the seal is about £20

Or just buy the parts and have go youself, not a difficult job just a bit time consuming

It's a family run Ford specialist, used to be a Ford dealership but was stripped of the rights when Ford built a new dealership in Torquay.

Have to book it in this week then!
Will get around to servicing the car at some point too!

Your right Lee, its special Rapid-Fit dealer and the clutch change is charged at a special unit charge I was very surprised at how cheap it was, and they said it could be done in 2 hours!!

I'm fookin skint now!!

Reckon I should get work to pay for it, happened last Friday after some of us were called into the office to be told there would be redundancies!
Floored the car in the rain cos I was p*ssed off at the prospect of being made redundant after being stuck behind a van turning around...

...then got called into the office again on Thursday to be told that there had been enough redunancies & the printshop where I work will be downsizing & I'll be the only one in there!

Job safe... car fooked!

It gets better!!

Drove the car to work slowly this morning, then limped it home at 20mph using the back roads, drove up a slight incline to where my garage is, drove it down to the garage, turned it in to reverse it in & then went to drive forward....

& burnt out the clutch trying to pull away!!!
