Default Red Sierra XR4i up date 21/01/06 more pics

My mate has no Internet, so i thought i would do a post for him!

Its a red 1984 2.8 sierra XR4i and was standard when he bought it ... a few yeas ago!

And was in a very good condition to .. with 2 owners from new .. still had the toolkit in the boot and was like new!

well not much happened to it for some time it just sat in his garage till we came up with a plan for the car ...

So after some time and thought on what to do, thing's started to move..

All the body-kit was removed + wheel arch-liners, yes its a late 84 so it has them, carpet.s lifted to check for rust .. all was found to be good!

new 3dr cosworth bonnet from fords! grill and 3dr cosworth wheels where bought from PJ motosport!

New uprated and lowered shocks and spring where fitted! its a System 2 Suspension -25mm!

A genuine ford RS wooden 4 spoke steering wheel and wooden gear nob replaced the standard ones!

sorry old pic crap i know But! not looking to bad for a car thats now nealy 22 years old!

Then a 2.8 sierra 4x4 in a scrap-yard was found

The back-end was removed from it and taken home till we decided what to do.

It was @ this time we decided to renew or paint most parts under the car..

The back-end of the 4x4 from the scrap-yard was then striped down..

The rear beam and lower arms where then sent off to be sand-blasted and then powder-coated black the diff was pressure-steamed cleaned and painted silver..

The rear drive-shaft's and anti-roll-bar being shot-blast and powder-coated red
all new rubber-gaiters for the driveshaf's are on order .. as are a full back-end set of polly-bushes ...

Thats stunning, what mine should look like! Have you had any trouble mounting the rear anti roll bar? I fitted a 4x4 rear end to mine and the rear anti roll bar fitting on the arms were different to that of the xr4i.Unless you can find a mk1 xr4x4, i believe theye the same. I had to cut off the 4i fitting and weld them to the 4x4 axle.

yea the mk1 4x4 is a straight swap, but as you can see its the mk2 4x4 back end we got, so will weld the new mounts to the floor, to use the mk2 rollbar!

started to fit some of the engine bay parts on, fitted the pas of the 2.8 4x4 as well , his XR4i came with out it, as it was a option on the 4i, hes still got more to do before the engine bay is done, but hes in no rush.

what you all think, looking worth all the work >?

Very different from the usual projects you see on here - nice to see an old Xr4i now and again.

@ the ultra rare steering wheel and gear knob - only place i've ever seen them was in an old RS catalogue dating back to the early ninties.
