Phil,

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but they didn't actually release the Ford Escort WRC until 1997.

Bollocks .

This is the spec of Collin Mcrae's Recce car (currently for sale) note the WRC parts :

Ex-works recce car used by Colin Mcrae on Rally Argentina and Rally Australia. Properly built and very tidy motorsport shell , built by GSE and maintained by M-sport. Mountune race engine with maram shaft turbo . pectel management with ALS. Quaife big tooth gearbox with special recce car ratios. Gartrac built rear arms ( very strong) and front uprights ( very strong) with new WRC steering arms. Ohlins fully adjustable suspension. Peltor intercom and C-giant rally computer etc etc. Original log book showing Ford Motor Co as the first owner and M-sport as the second. There were only 3 cars built to this spec ( n reg) and one of them was written off by Carlos I believe ,so there are only 2 left. This is not your usual untidy converted road car. There is a large spares package including driveshafts front and rear , steering arms , discs , calipers , filters , gaskets and 20 wheels and tyres ( some magnesium OZ ford wheels). The car also comes with gravel springs and antiroll bars and tarmac ones.

Not all of Fords recce cars were WRC Mike...but i have seen that advert once before in the motoring news.

M-Sports current recce cars are volvo's.

Paul,
In case you didn't realise / notice, Phil has an Escort COSWORTH that he is converting to Recce spec - not a Volvo .

OBVIOUSLY (for the stupid), this means his reference points are from the 1996/1997 era, NOT current day rules and regulations .

I do hope this clarifies to your satisfaction .

Jakob,
And neither is Phil's . Also, the Recce cars are closer to the rally cars than a standard road car .

They are a little tweaked depending on the teams budget. But it's not such a big thing as you know.

Skoda got one nice recce car now

I think the above-mentioned car is a little more than "tweaked" . It has the full spec engine, T6, ALS, Ohlins, WRC suspension parts etc. I would say it is quite a bit special .

Well it was still used in 1997 when the WRC cars were on the scene, and it has some WRC parts, so technically, he is right.

I am trying to replicate the recce car as its cheaper to do than WRC car ..Like Mike said still a monte spec but easily acheivable on my budget ...By the looks of it the recce car on the escos is far better than anything road going!

Cheers for the info..now how about photos of escos recce cars

Worth the money....but the aint that special...in essence the recce cars are grp'n' rally cars.....how a WRC steering arm can be used on a grp'n' hub is a mystery to me.....I have seen one of these cars when it was purchased from the GSE ....very nice cars...they will be on a P8 with pectel board....from memory i think they were on 3.9 diffs....

Absolute bargain! Would estimate the build cost at close to 70 K ?

Also the pics show the bare minimum of advertising (stickers) is this typical of recce cars?

Like I give a fuck!

At the end of the day, you're trying to replicate a recce car - what the fuck for?

They're nothing special in the slightest. They're about as far removed from the WRC car they recce for as you could possibly hope for. In most cases, it's a Group N Escort Cosworth with a few bits thrown on for added measure.

A lot of the recce cars will also be used for press/demonstration stuff, as often they look similar.

However, in the case of the 97/98 Escort WRC recce cars, from what I understand, they were just plain Group N cosworths. In fact, they had no livery, so best you rip all the stickers off

Cheers mk2tim..thanks alot I note the interior is not to badly stripped using standard speaker door panels and retaining the heater!

Pon you have no idea have you?..All you do is try and judge other people trying to make a car that THEY want.Just like the Ferrari thread once...your jealousy shines thru yet again...Maybe in future try to help instead of constantly mocking, you are a fine chap...but you say MY internet attitude sucks...take a look in the mirror!!!

I am trying to acheive a car that is comfortable for road use but is able to be driven on a rally stage in the mid 90's.

Could anyone tell me from a 96/97 perspective what a rally car MUST have and what it COULDNT have? (recce style!)

In terms of what....safety equipment?....the recce cars weren't scutineered (except for noise) or homologated so you could have virtually anything you like....even in 1996/1997 they were running a 30mph limit whilst recceing.....

I told you about your piece of shit mudflaps and you shot me down in flames, so I'll mock all the fuck I like.

I certainly aint taking internet bulletin board etiquette advice from you Phil - that's like taking safe sex advice from a paedophile!

Oh, and I'm not jealous - I actually have a proper motorsport car. I'm not trying to replicate ANYTHING. Maybe you're jealous!

All I'm doing is questioning you - how do you expect to achieve comfort from a rally car? I also have plenty of "idea" - I've actually been rallying, and have lived it and breathed it, all at a young age.

Maybe you're just fake - all the look, and none of the substance

Pon.......heater is a comfort...the ride is lovely and thats on proper suspension....so i have it all now...the rest can go out the window as seats and harneses are fine as is door bars.

You only seen a pic of the flaps...and yet again you are so cool you can judge from your chair Lets wait and see wether 35 quid for 909 parts transpire to be bin material...good gamble IMO.

You have a proper motorsport car?The one you was selling now not...attension seeking aswell My God i have taught you well

I did learn from the best Phil, but I might actually finish this project

As for 909 parts, you don't have a clue! I've got 909 stuff I've thrown in the bin! I also have the complete 909 parts listing here, so I know what's what!
