What factors are considered when porting a cylinder head?? especially on a N/A engine?

What about the port size? is it more critical to get the size right on an N/A car than a turbo car?

 

Most of the gains are round the valve throat and have little to do with port size TBH.

Its application specific though, generally the bigger the ports the further up the RPM range you shift the torque, but it needs to be a good match with the cams, no point having huge ports and mild cams etc.

all needs to be done as a package

 

hmmm, i was thinking about putting some cams in my 3.0 Omega, and possibly getting the heads done.....

 

The 3.0 omega cams arent too bad to begin with TBH mate, in fact they are so good that people use them as upgrade ones for the 2.5!

exhaust manifold is first place you want to be looking at on that engine!

 

I know the 3.0 cams are good for the 2.5, but was looking for more from the 3.0.

i am looking at the manifolds at the moment - i have some tube and tube bender, and a mate who can weld - tubular manifolds here we come LOL

 

Trouble with the cams is, there are 4 of them, so its a lot of money, and with the standard ones being pretty good anyway, you have to weigh up other things you could do for similar money.

Especially as they have a tendancy to chuck a rod at high rpm anyway!

personally, i would supercharge it instead.

 

rods also go weak over 270bhp if iirc..

i arent going crazy with it as i'll be in another cossie next xmas, jut want it quicker than it is LOL

 

Rods rarely fail under compression.

For example, ive put 400bhp through standard 20XE/LET rods, easily done if you keep the revs down.

 

the V6 only revs to 7k anyway in sports mode iirc (i havent driven the car for 2 weeks, cant bloody remember LOL)

I dont wanna spend too much on it with it being the every day car, and i need as much money as possible for another cossie next year, but i'd like around 250bhp LOL

 

Put the money towards the Cossie you muppet and stop wasting it .

But post on migweb and ask for advice, a few peopel on there have played with the 30xe and no more about it than me.

I think you will struggle to see a genuine 250bhp+ on a budget though TBH
