Default exhaust vs inlet cams

what's the difference between exhaust and inlet cams,how can be they recognized?? Is to possible to use a inlet cam on the exhaust side??

No, you can't swap them round

One of the cams has a line around the carriers. The inlet I think, I'm sure someone else will confirm

why can't they be swapped over???

i've known a few tuners that HAVE used an exhaust cam on the inlet side on a cossie

Surely the timing/duration/overlap etc would be completely different on the inlet compared to the exhaust?

timing and therefor overlap can be cahnged though with a set of verniers or other methods

yes but i think you have to time that cam 180 degs opposite.

The guy who reconned Daveyboy's head put the cams round the wrong way round.

When we put the cambelt on and timed it up to TDC in the usual way, we got valve piston contact.

As suggested, it would be 180 degrees out would it not?

The cams are identical bar the groove on the inlet cam!....Pon if you have valve contact you timed it up wrong The woodruff key need to be opposie each other...so yes you are correct Pon 180 out

Yeah, that's what I meant Phil - wouldn't time up with the cam pointers facing each other.

Both pointers needed to face away from each other as opposed to pointing at each other to get correct timing

all you have done by doing this is put the crank 360 degrees out, so just the engine phase is out of position

No gareth you put the cams in like i said to begin with if you KNOW they are the wrong way round
