i recently changed my gearbox since the synchro on my last one went, since i put this box on, everytime i start the car i hear a loud squeak sond before the car starts. i was told that it was the starter motor grinding on the ringear. so i changed the starter for a brand new one and i still have the same problem, once the car starts it dissapears?
flywheel and ringear are brand new and worked fine with my last box?
any ideas?

maybe the starter is pushed in too tight when you've bolted it up, try brinning it out half a mil, dont push it in tight when tightening the bolts up

 

Id agree with that. Put a new starter on mine this week and i forgot about the spacer plate between the starter and the box (isnt the same as an Escort for obvious reasons), but it made an odd squeak as well.
