I'm entering a competition...
...for photography.
We have to submit one of our favourite photos, in whatver style we most fancy.
This is mine, a greyscale shot of a beach in Cornwall.
I concentrated on the sky the most, as I liked the whispy clouds.
Just thought I'd get some feedback from some 3rd party eyes.
comments welcomed
Thanks
Version 1: totally uneditited bar the greyscale addition

Version 2: No kite, and cropepd down to reduce lower left hand corner empty space

It's a lovely picture - got something in the same vein of the New York / Brooklyn skyline on my bedroom wall - I really love those types of pics

The S9500 is a beast, has manual 28-300mm lens doesn't it?
You'll have LOTS of fun with that matey
Mr S1: Difinately, these style of pics are great. I love them, simple!
Thanks Mmanse

hhmmmm lol
i agree, the uncropped picture is better, with or without the kite - the empty space actually makes it more natural... even the kite looks ok! if it was there then, then keep it
Both damn good pics in my mind, but I would say that wouldn't I lol
I'll have to make a decision somewhere along the lines, got a few days left till entry time so that's not too bad.
As for it being the wrong image for greyscale, I think I'll keep it as it is
CheeRS boys

Makes the whole picture alot more wider and gives the impression of space
Thanks

Sorry... but..... IMHO
A good photograph should lead your eye into it...
And this picture doesnt...
There is too much going on... its too busy...
You have the sky, which you dont see because of the blinding light in the centre of the picture then you have figures in 2 areas of the beach... which again confuse the eye...
6 out of 10....

There are 3 figures to the right, not 2, they are carrying bodyboards, and the other 2 figures are flying a kite, see pic 1. It's busy because it's a beach in summer lol
If you looked at the image you might actually take in what is going on. Then again, if your monitor is calibrated shyte, then you'll struggle...
Sorry, didn't mean to sound shitty b4 lol
Just weird how the 3 photography forums I use, not ONE person has said its too dark.
Guess it's a photography thing lol...
Anyway, thanks for looking

Mate the sad thing about forums is no one says what they really feel...
Imaging the ruckas if someone came on here and properly slagged of someones car because they didnt like it...
You asked for opinions and all having a load of your mates telling you how great something is just boosts your ego, people who judge competitions are not your mates and dont know you from Adam.
As someone who used to do photography semi professionally I think I know what I am talking about when it comes to composition.
And for the record, I didnt say about the number of people, I said there were figures in 2 locations.... which there are !
neilm you seem to know you're shit, you're cropped version is much more appealing to me than the original 2.
danja sorry mate, but if you don't want or like criticism, you shouldn't be asking for opinions. the important thing with any art or hobby, is that you enjoy it.

Its perfect in black and white. Its putting the right message across.
The whole point i work in greyscale is i don't want too many colors destracting people from what i want them to look at. Ie; the sky.
Clouds look fantastic, very sharp and clean
IMHO i would have made it darker, i just increase sharpness and brought the brightness down in photoshop and the clouds are well emphasised
I like greyscale

Looking at past entries etc, I think I'm way below par, so think I'm gonna give it bit more time before I start putting my pics in for judging lol
Nice to hear some of the comments tho
