Default 1.8 and 1.9 cvh

Does anyone know whether the above two blocks are the same. I've got a 1.9 block fitted to my FRST but I have a score mark in bore no. 4 and rather that have it re-lined I've been thinking of getting a new block and tranferring everything over.

I seem to be able to find 1.8 blocks but not 1.9 ones. Any Ideas? does any one know of a 1.9 block for sale?

Hi mate,

In the uk there was no such thing as a 1.9 CVH, however technically there are two varients

1.9CVH over bored from a original 1.6 unit (Power Engineering developed technique)

1.9CVH America tall block unit made from a 1.8 American CVH which is slightly over bored.

If your sourced 1.8 unit, has come from this country it is likely to have come from a Serra, and will take a lot of work to adapt it (Serras are RWD)

I think you need to find out whether your unit is an overbored 1.6 unit or an American tall block unit and go from there

Thanks for your reply.

My engine is an American Tall Block one. I was just wondering whether I can get a Sierra 1.8 block and transfer every thing over.

Andy - have you spoken to Specialised Engines or Euro engines?

Have a scour around parts for sale on all the Ford forums as well mate - one might turn up!

Bummer to hear about your problems though - what power is/will the lump be putting out now?

Cheers,

Andy

to be honest mate, 99% of the 'american tall blocks' are infact just 1.8 sierra lumps fettled. theyre vertually the same lump.

you can get a fully built up short motor from ferriday engineering for £750, or if your handy with the old spanners, you can build it yourself. if you get a block froma scrappy and then compare whats different, i think you'll find that the main different is probably just the bore. you should eb able to swap your oil and water pumps over, sump, crank (with the correct bearings if the cranks been ground) and all other associated nonsense.

you'll probably need to get it overbored to suit your pistons, but everything else should fit fine.
